Batesville Cub Scout Pack 78 and Boy Scout Troop 478 collected 2,216 pounds of food and $1,211 in cash donations for the Panola County Food Pantry last weekend in their annual Scouting for Food event.
The scouts went door-to-door to make the collections last Saturday, and parents and other volunteers set up a collection site in front of the Batesville Goodwill store.
Organizers said the donation, just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday rush at the food pantry, was made possible through the hard work of the scouts and the generosity of the people of Batesville.
