Mississippi Coats for Kids will hand out 153 winter coats for children who returned signed request papers by the Oct. 9 deadline this year.

The coats will be distributed from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Batesville Head Start Center.

All of the coats were purchased new for the giveaway, and were donated by various businesses and organizations in the city.

The most requests were received from Batesville Junior High School, organizers said.

New Hope Church and Girl Scout Troop 13250 were among the largest donors for the annual project.
