ND Lady Wave bows out of state

North Delta fastpitch softball suffered another heartbreak as its 2016 came to an end in the second round of the state championship.
The Lady Green Wave (17-8) dropped to the losers’ bracket after falling 6-2 to Adams County Christian Saturday morning. They then lost to Cathedral 3-2 in the second game.

North Delta out hit Adams County 9-3 but committed four fielding errors.
Maci Kirkland scored first for North Delta on a Hailey Rikard RBI (run batted in) double.
Adams County went ahead 2-1 in bottom of the inning on a North Delta two-run error. A one-run error scored Adams County in bottom of the fourth for the 3-1 lead.
A Rikard single RBI drove home Ally Alford in top of the fifth to cut the lead 3-2. Alford had singled to get on base.
Rikard led at the plate going 2-for-4 with one double and two RBIs. Alford followed going 2-for-4, one triple and one run. Kirkland was 2-for-3 with one run.
Sarah Johnson pitched the complete game in six innings, allowing three hits, one earned run, one home run, four walks and striking out 11 of 31 batters she faced. Against Cathedral, she pitched the complete game in seven innings, allowing three hits, three runs, one earned run, walking two and striking out 15.
Cathedral 3, North Delta 2
Getting hits against Cathedral were Alford, Rikard, Kirkland and Amanda Lamb, 1-for-3 each; and Isabella Morrow, 1-for-2.
Cathedral took a 2-0 lead in top of the first. North Delta scored in bottom of the second. Rikard singled and then scored when Taylor Barton grounded out to first.
In bottom of the third Alford scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at two. She had singled to get on base and then advanced to second on a Morrow sac-fly and stole third while Johnson was at bat.
It was still tied at two going into top of the seventh when Cathedral hit a double RBI to go ahead 3-2. It was three-up, three-down for North Delta in bottom of the seventh to end their season.
