Shooting investigation

Panola authorities are continuing their investigation into a Monday afternoon shooting that killed Jennifer Barefoot and left Jennifer’s husband, Jim Barefoot, and her sister-in-law, Vikki Barefoot Holland wounded from gunshots.

Panola County Sheriff Dennis Darby said that an altercation that apparently originated with Facebook postings brought Jim and Jennifer Barefoot to confront Vikki Barefoot Holland at her home on Hentz Road between I-55 and Highway 51. They found her at a shed behind the home where the shootings occurred.

Jim Barefoot and Vikki Holland are brother and sister.

Darby said that Jim Barefoot and Vikki Barefoot Holland were both transported by helicopter to the Med. Holland was released to her private doctor today for treatment. Barefoot remains hospitalized for surgery to remove several bullets lodged in his body, Darby said.

Panola County Sheriff’s Department Investigators Major Barry Thompson and Lt. Edward Dickson are still collecting evidence and waiting to interview the shooting survivors, Darby said.

“It’s starting to add up now,” Darby said. “When you do this (investigation), we want to absolutely satisfy ourselves.”

No charges have been filed, pending completion of the investigation, according to the sheriff.
