Jr. High Tigers split DH with Oxford

Gunner Ward’s two-run single in the first led to a four-run first inning as Batesville Junior High salvaged a double header split with an 8-1 win over Oxford Monday night. The Chargers took advantage of five Tiger errors in the opening game to earn a 6-3 victory.
John Culp added two singles and drove in a pair of runs as the Tigers evened their record to 3-3 on the season. Batesville salted the game away with four runs in the third on five hits. Dawson Griffin, Bowen Williams and Culp delivered three straight singles in the frame. Denver Brown and Gage Heath also contributed with singles to lead off the inning.
Griffin also picked up the pitching win by giving up one hit over three innings with three strikeouts.
Oxford- 6 Batesville-3
A five- run second inning propelled the Chargers to the win despite being out-hit 7-5 by Batesville.
Caleb White led the Tigers at the plate with three singles and a run batted in. Ward chipped in with a pair of singles while Griffin and Williams also added singles. Williams took the loss on the hill by giving up five runs (two earned) while striking out five over three innings of work. White tossed the final two innings, surrendering one unearned run on two hits and also fanning two batters.
Batesville returns to the diamond Monday at Senatobia beginning at 5 and 7 p.m.
