Lady Tigers open at home with a shutout victory over Quistors

The South Panola High School fastpitch softball team run-ruled Olive Branch 10-0 in five innings while the junior varsity team fell to Olive Branch 3-1 Tuesday night.
In the home opener, the varsity came prepared to claim their 10-0 win as senior pitcher Caroline Dickins struck out the first batter. The other two ground out to first base for a three-up, three-down inning.
In the second inning Dickins struck out three of the five batters. As the Lady Conquistadors continued to battle the Lady Tigers defense proved to be too strong as the Conquistadors lost seven opportunities to score.
The Lady Tigers continued to score runs each inning, which head Coach Ashleigh Hick said was one of her main goals coming into this season. Mallory Myers hit a triple to left field driving in two runs in the second inning. Dickins hit a single to left center driving Myers across the plate.
The Lady Conquistador’s pitcher only struck out one batter and allowed 11 runners on base, walking 10 and hitting one by pitch. Dickins struck out nine and walked one.
After the game, Hicks said the Lady Tigers are continuing to improve on offense with hitting the ball as well as base running. When asked what experience can she take from this game to prepare for Senatobia Hick’s said, “in the past we have gone innings where we’ve scored and then the next inning we don’t, so I hope we can continue to score in each inning like we did tonight.”
The game against Senatobia last night was canceled due to rains that moved through the area.
Olive Branch JV 3, SP 1
Pitcher Allie Cummins started off the defense for junior varsity by striking out two of the six batters in the first inning allowing the Lady Conquistadors one run. On offense, Haven Dulin scored the only run batted in by Aubrianna Craven.
Darbi Smith started pitching midway through the second inning, walking two of batters. The Lady Tigers allowed 2 runs on defense in the second inning putting the Lady Conquistadors ahead. . It was only an error made by the catcher, who dropped the third strike allowed Craven an opportunity to get on first. It was another error made by the Lady Conquistador’s first basemen as she dropped the throw to first allowing Craven to be called safe; however, a pop fly by Tyler Hamby to the Conquistador’s second baseman, the game with a loss for junior varsity.
The Lady Tigers will travel to Valley View, ARK. Saturday, March 5 where they will at 12 and 1 p.m.
