NP ladies edge out Charleston; NP Cougars blow away Tigers

North Panola hosted the Charleston Tigers on Tuesday with the Cougars getting two wins and increasing their district win total.
The Lady Cougars won a close game, 44-40. In the first quarter, the Lady Cougars did more scoring than usual putting together an 18-point quarter. ShaQuanta Pettis and Kenya Edwards put the points on the board combining for 13 points.
In the second the scoring slowed and the Tigers closed the gap. They went on an eight point run pushing the Lady Cougars into a corner. The deficit was closed down to 25-19.
In the third quarter the Lady Cougars spread the scoring throughout the team. With four Lady Cougars carrying the load they could not be stopped going into the fourth with a 40-28 lead.
In the final quarter  the Lady Tigers made a late push but the Lady Cougars ran the clock not leaving time on the clock and escaping with a 44-40 victory.
Leading the way for the Lady Cougars was Pettis with a 16 point outing. Other scorers were Edwards with 10, LaErica Spann with seven, QuiTonya Webster with four, Jasmine Mays and Denisha Montgomery with two and KiTyra Webb with one.
The Cougars dominated their game lead for the entire way and unstoppable in the paint. Jamarcus Jones led the Cougars with a 20 points.
The Cougars got into foul trouble early, but when they went the charity stripe they could not hit the free ones.
In the second quarter the Cougars took off hitting 16 points for the quarter.
The Cougars went to the half with a 25-11 lead. In the third the Cougars held a 13 point lead with at 38-25.
In the fourth the Cougars held the Tigers scoreless as they made a big push late led by Jones. The Cougars won in blowout fashion 52-25.
Leading the Cougars was Jones with 20 points. Other scorers were Darrell Young with seven, Mario Fenner, Ankeyvias Harris and Davonte Cathey with six each. Sylvonta Oliver had four and Tremayne Madlock finished with two.
