The South Panola boys soccer team saw its three-game winning streak come to a end with a tough 2-1 loss at the hands of Lake Cormorant Tuesday night at Robert H. Dunlap Stadium.
With the match knotted at 1-1 late in the second half, the Gators Tyrone Davis lazared a shot past South Panola goalkeeper Gehrig Griffin off of a penalty kick in extra time to give Lake Cormorant the victory. Davis also accounted for the visitors initial goal off a throw in at the 21 minute mark of the second half.
South Panola (4-4) scored its lone goal late in the first half as a 20-yard strike from Chris Casiday went through the hands of Gator goaltender’s Ethan Kriz. Griffin stopped 14 shots on goal while recording 12 saves.
In the girls tilt, Lake Cormorant remained undefeated at 6-0 on the year with a 3-0 win over the winless Lady Tigers. Skyler Powell scored two goals while Kristi Rayner provided the other goal.
South Panola goalie Rebekah Garner survived 20 shots on goal and 17 saves. Haley Reid had the only shot on goal for the Lady Tigers.
South Panola opens up district play tonight at Columbus starting at 5 p.m with the girls matchup. The Tigers visit Hernando Tuesday before returning home next Friday against Tupelo at 5 and 7 p.m.
