Jr. High action heats up

The Pope Jr. High basketball teams played back-to-back games this week Monday and Tuesday.

Pope teams fell short in both contests. The Pope girls fell to Lafayette Monday at home 25-7 and fell to Batesville Jr. High Tuesday in Batesville 32-19.

The Pope boys lost to Lafayette 30-9 and to Batesville Jr. High 40-7.

Pope Girls
Scoring for Pope against Lafyette were Jamara Miles, three points; Mary Grace Dickerson and Carli Mitchell, two points each.

BJH girls 32, Pope 19
Janarria Sanford led the Lady Tigers with 14 points.

Batesville led 6-2 at the end of the first quarter and 13-11 at halftime.

Jamara Miles led the Lady Bulldogs comeback scoring seven of her nine points in the second quarter, but Batesville shut her down in the second half.

Also scoring for Batesville were Takyra Webster and KeAmber Jackson, five points each; Teddera Patton, four points; Aziyah McGhee, three points; and Kimya Spears, one point.

Also scoring for Pope were Tyler Hamby, five points and Riley Dalrymple, three points.

BJH boys 40, Pope 7
Marques Pryor led Batesville in scoring with nine points.

Batesville took a 24-4 lead into halftime, as Pope’s offense, which has struggled all year long, just could not get the shots to fall.

Christion Bobo followed with two three-pointers for six points. Calvious Moore scored five points for the Tigers.

Scoring four points each for Batesville were J’Tavion Hicks, Tymdarreus Taylor, Trae Ellis and Dearrian Nelson.

Rounding out the scoring with two points each for Batesville were Cameron Wright and Raymond Harris.

Pope will play its final home game of the season Monday, hosting Independence at 5 p.m. Thursday, the Bulldogs will end the season at Charleston at 5 p.m.
Batesville Jr. High will host a tournament tomorrow morning beginning at 9 a.m. and will play its last game before the Christmas holidays Monday hosting Senatobia beginning at 5 p.m.
The Tigers will resume action Thursday, January 7 at home hosting North Panola.
