SP teams come up short against host Cleveland in tournament last week

The South Panola boys basketball team lost to the host school Cleveland in the Cleveland tournament Thursday night 47-38.

It was previously reported South Panola lost the first game against Ray Brooks last Monday, but South Panola won 61-54.

South Panola (6-1) was down 21-14 at halftime against Cleveland. Going into the fourth quarter Cleveland led 33-28.

Kenon Johnson led the Tigers with 10 points, followed by Bobby Thomas and Jordin Smith with nine each.

Johnson had five rebounds on the night; Thomas, four rebounds and three steals; and Smith, two rebounds and a steal.

Other scorers include Andre Gleaton and Quen Poole with four points each and Kendricus Carlton with two points, six rebounds and a steal.

Gleaton had two rebounds and three steals while Poole pulled down two boards and a steal.
SP 61, Ray Brooks 54

In the game against Ray Brooks, Gleaton led the Tigers with 21 points, followed by Thomas with 11 and Carlton with 10.

Other scorers include, Johnson and Poole, six points each; Smith, four points; and Byron Robinson, three points.

Cleveland Ladies 58, SP 53

The South Panola Lady Tigers (4-4)lost a tough one to Cleveland Thursday night in the Cleveland tournament.

Cleveland jumped out to a 26-15 halftime lead and went ahead 36-21 going into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Tigers got on fire and lit up the scoreboard in the fourth quarter outscoring Cleveland 32-22, but still came up short.

The Tiger teams are back on the road twice this week. Tonight they travel to Clarksdale for varsity games only beginning at 6 p.m.

Friday, they travel to Lafayette for games starting at 4 p.m. with the junior varsity girls.
