Letter to the editor:
Democrat committee’s decision
must not set precedent, reader says
The letter to the editor in the Tuesday, Sept. 29 edition (“Democratic challenger cites uncounted absentees, other irregularities”) from Mr. Pride has caused me great concern. From what is reported it seems a grave injustice has been doled out to the voters of District Two in Panola County along with Mr. Pride.
How is it possible that the Democratic Committee has been so autocratic to ignore all good judgement and make rules and take a position to conform to their apparently predetermined position? The way they have ignored Mr. Pride’s and his attorney’s efforts to correct the many irregularities in the recent election and possibly future elections is unconscionable. Their position must not be allowed to stand.
It is shocking fact that voters’ votes are not respected and counted. Is this a democratic election in a democratic country?
How to correct the situation at this late date is not known. Perhaps by adding Mr. Pride’s name to the ballot as an independent in the November election would remedy part of the situation.
This must not be allowed to stand and set a precedent.
Sincerely,
William L. Dees
