Jeremy Tyler Appleton

POPE–Jeremy Tyler Appleton, 20 died September 21, 2015 near Pope. He was the son of Macel Jr. and Trena Appleton of Pope.

Charles R. Brewer

BATESVILLE–Charles R. “Bob” Brewer, age 82, died September 18, 2015, at the Veterans Home in Kosciusko.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. today at Wells Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow the service in Forrest Memorial Park. Dr. Tommy Snyder will officiate the service.

Born March 7, 1933 in Yalobusha County to the late Upton and Dorothy Martindale Brewer, he was a retired superintendent for ANR Pipeline and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Batesville. 

He served in the Army during the Korean War and was a longtime member of the Batesville Civitan Club. He was an avid outdoorsman.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Katie Murphree Brewer of Batesville; daughter, Valorie Brewer Westbrook of Decatur; son, Charles Randall “Randy” Brewer of Batesville; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family requests that memorials be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

David Wayne Jacobs

BATESVILLE–David Wayne Jacobs, age 52, died September 18, 2015, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

Born April 1, 1963 in Marks to Claude and Sadie Campbell Jacobs, he was a heavy equipment operator for McBride Civil Engineering Contractors.

Survivors include his wife of over thirty years, Mona Sanders Jacobs of Batesville; son, Claude Jacobs of Batesville; mother, Sadie Campbell Jacobs of Batesville; three sisters, Claudette Davis of Lambert, Joan Mangrum of Marks and Betty Henry of Batesville.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Evalene Grant Spencer

POPE–Evalene Grant Spencer, 69, died September 17, 2015 at her residence. She was a retired seamstress and belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star, Batesville Chapter 319.

Funeral services will be today at noon at Olive Ray M.B. Church the Rev. L.C. Smith will officiate. Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Cemetery. Eddie Robinson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

She was born August 6, 1946 to the late A.D. and Deverilia Grant.

She is survived by her daughter, Amanda Lloyd of Pope; her son, Lonnie Spencer of Batesville; sisters Abbie McKay of Kilmichael and Delores Long of Houston; brothers Quitman Grant, R.C. Grant, L.B. Grant, Jimmy Dee Grant, Dennis Grant, and Lawrence Grant, all of Batesville; and Dolphus Grant of Chicago and Wayne Grant of Charleston.

Nicholas Walker

JACKSON, Tenn.–Nicholas Walker, age 34, died on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at the Jackson Madison County General Hospital.

Nick was born on May 26, 1981 in Oxford.  He was a 1999 graduate of South Panola High School and earned a master’s degree from Mississippi State University in ag business.  He was employed as a crop insurance adjuster with Armtech, as well as, raising cattle and teaching farm management at the University of Tennessee Martin Jackson Campus.  He was a member of North Jackson Church of Christ, an avid duck hunter and outdoorsman.  His family and friends were his life and he was devoted to them always placing others before self.

He is survived by his wife, Laura Beth Poston Walker of Jackson, TN; his son, Grady Mack Walker of Jackson, TN; his parents, Danny and Peggy McAlexander Walker of Batesville; his identical twin brother, Zachary Walker and wife Kristine of Olive Branch; brother, James McKinney and wife Kathleen of Gallatin, Tenn.; his grandmother, Mrs. Grady “Joan” McAlexander of Holly Springs; his father and mother-in-law, Ray and Sue Poston of Elizabethtown, KY.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. today at the North Jackson Church of Christ with David Powell, minister, Zachary Walker and Michael Bates officiating.  Burial will follow at Ridgecrest Cemetery with Gary Puryear officiating.  

Pallbearers for the service will be William Cole, Lee Johnson, John Myers, Britt Little, Benny Walker and Jarrett Poston.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Walker Wellington, Dennis Lott, Phillip Smith, Buddy, David and Jeff Adams, Kevin McAlexander, Banks, Thomas and Colman Carlisle.

Deniya Renay Wright

COURTLAND–Deniya Renay Wright, 9-day-old daughter of Dephanie Tucker and Bobby Wright, died Tuesday, September 15, 2015, at LeBohneur Children Medical Center in Memphis.

Graveside services were held Sunday at Eureka AME Zion Cemetery in Courtland. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Batesville was in charge of the arrangements.

She is also survived her twin sister – Denaysia Wright of Courtland; two brothers – Bobby Wright, Jr. and DeOndreque Tucker, both of Courtland; grandparents, Antionette Chapman of Batesville, Rosemary Wright of Courtland and Bobby Earl Griffin of Sardis; and great-grandparents, John William and Mary Ford of Courtland and Aldophus and Lillie Chapman of Batesville.
