South Panola High School student Jessica Simmerman placed third among skeet shooters from all over the country at the National 4-H Shooting Sports Event in Grand Island, Neb. last week. South Panola High School student Jessica Simmerman placed third among skeet shooters from all over the country at the National 4-H Shooting Sports Event in Grand Island, Neb. last week.  
She is a member of the Quitman County 4-H Shooting Team, and was one of four Mississippians who qualified to compete in the shotgun event.
There were 100 rounds of sporting clays, skeet, and trap.  Jessica was the top placed Mississippi shooter for the three shotgun events.  
The Mississippi team placed 10th in sporting clays, 2nd in skeet, and 17th in trap.  There were 30 teams represented nationally.  
Jessica placed 3rd individually in skeet with a score of 99 (out of 100).  She was just barely edged out of the top two slots by a couple of young men from Texas.  
There were approximately 120 shooters competing for individual and team awards. The Mississippi shotgun team placed 10th overall after shooting all three events.  Jessica placed 19th overall out of a field of more than 100 participants.
