Fall festivals scheduled in Como

By John Howell
Como has set two festival days for fall: Saturday by the Tracks on September 19 and Como Day on October 17.

Como Main Street Alliance representative Karen Ott Mayer said that a 5K run and chili cook-off have been added to this year’s Saturday by the Track’s itinerary that will also include music and vendors.

Accompanying Mayer during Tuesday evening’s meeting of Como’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen was Andrea Ross, who presented a 5K course recommendation during “We like to start at the water tower; that way we’re not blocking any traffic on 310,” Ross said.
A professional race course company will be hired to time runners, she said.

“We’re expecting a bigger event this year,” Mayer said.

Mayor Everette Hill announced that Como Day will be celebrated on Elder Frank Ward Street and the town park.

“We have three blues markers here, so we need to bring some blues to town,” the mayor said.
“We’re going to try to take it to the Back Street (as residents often refer to Ward Street), to the park and that area. We’re going to try to let the restaurant have their business,” Hill said.

“I’m hoping that by this time they’ll have a new street back there,” the mayor continued.
Como has let a $150,000 contract to renovate and repave Ward Street.

“Let’s put a great day together and move forward,” Hill said.
