MDOT this week removed from the roadway the rails which had served the old Federal Compress and adjacent grain elevators on Highway 35 South. The removal comes at the “worst possible time,” a commentary on page 4A states. Local leaders are rallying for a new crossing to allow rail service from the new railroad company that will soon operate on the Memphis to Jackson route that comes through Panola County.
