J. C. Burns Jr.
MADISON––James C. “J. C.” Burns Jr., died Sunday, June 7, 2015 at his home. 

Funeral services are 1 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Natchez Trace Funeral Chapel in Madison with a private interment in Montgomery Cemetery in Madison. Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Burns worked with First Security Bank in Batesville for 27 years as a Vice President and later served as Director of the MS Development Authority.  He served on the Board of Directors for M.A.R.L. and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Madison.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Monteith Burns; daughter, Abby Burns; sisters, Dean Harrison, Pat Powell and Nina Hendrix and brother, T. D. Smith.

Memorials may be made to: First United Methodist Church of Madison or MS Animal Rescue League.

Sidney Denson Burns Sr.
SARDIS––Sidney Denson Burns Sr., 91, died Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at Sardis Community Nursing Home.

Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Martin Willingham Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. Visitation will be held today from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home who has charge.

Burns, born Feb. 16, 1924, to the late Casey Clifford Burns and Hattie Clyde Alewine Burns, in Batesville, began his career working for Leonard’s Pit Barbecue in Memphis. He opened Burn’s Drive-In in Batesville where he operated the restaurant for 21 years before retiring. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Batesville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Morrow York Burns and one son, Travis Wade Burns.

Survivors include: one son, Sidney Denson Burns Jr. (Sherry) of Batesville; four sisters, Joy Burns Smith and Agnes Burns Plunk, both of Memphis, Bobbie Burns Burton and Irma Burns Hill, both of Jackson, Tenn.; four granddchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Maritza Elsner
Maritza Marcelina Hernandez Rodriguez de Elsner, 74, died Sunday, June 7, 2015, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Memorial services will be held today at 10:45 a.m. at West Tennessee Veteran’s Cemetery in Memphis. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Elsner, born May 25, 1941, in Santa Fe, Panama, to the late Roman Hernandez and Maria Cruz Rodiquez de Hernandez, worked in the binding department for R.R. Donnelley for 20 years in Wheeling, Ill. and assisted many in gaining U. S. citizenship.

Survivors include: three daughters, Rosemarie Moore of Batesville; Anabell Elsner Davis  of Memphis and Jessica Elsner Nawracaj of Hinsdale, Ill.; three sons, Francisco Hernandez of Colon, Panama, Jeffery W. Elsner of Tupelo and James M. Elsner of Mountain Grove, Mo.; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family asks in lieu of flowers a donation can be made in Maritza’s honor to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.

Vernasia Renae Frost
SARDIS––Vernasia Renae” Frost, 28, died Monday, June 8, 2015.

She was a graduate of South Panola High School and an employee of Toyota.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Gillion M.B. Church. Visitation will be held Saturday 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. at Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home in Batesville, who has charge of arrangements. Rev. Willie Frost will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Level Cemetery in Como.
Survivors include: one daughter, Janiyah Frost of Batesville; two sons, Jamarion Cox and Da’Myrion Hall, both of Batesville; her mother, Cynthia (Steve) Jones of Batesville; her father, Rev. Willie (Barbara) Frost of Sardis; one sister, Krystal (James) King of Batesville; and two brothers, Antonio Childs and Roccii Ellis, both of Batesville.

Ricky Lee  Harris
BATESVILLE––Ricky Lee “House” Harris, 52, died Friday, June 5, 2015, at his residence.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Visitation will be held today from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary, who has charge of arrangements. Pastor Zannie Leland will officiate. Burial will be in Shiloh C.M.E. Cemetery in Sardis.

Harris, born July 24, 1962, in Sardis to Henry Broadnax Jr. and Katie Lee Harris, was a member of Shiloh C.M.E. Church and retired from Tri-Lake Asphalt Company.

Survivors include: five sons, Demario Lewis, Adrian Harris, Ricky Henderson, Victor Ellis, Andrew Trotter, Christopher Jones and Anthony Harris, all of Batesville and Jermarcus Hardrick of Tampa Bay, Fla.; four daughters, Cynthia Harris, Christine Jones and Kashrundra Henderson, all of Batesville and Jacambria Jefferson of Grenada; three brothers, Ronnie Baker and Edward Walters, both of Batesville and Luther Broadnax of West Memphis, Ark.; four sisters, Martha Walls, Martha Young, Brenda Watters, all of Batesville and Ollivette Broadnax of West Memphis, Ark. and 14 grandchildren.

Myron D. Hall
COURTLAND––Myron D. Hall, 39, died Monday, June 8, 2015.

Services will be held Saturday at at 3 p.m. at West Batesville Baptist Church. Visitation will be held Friday, June 12 from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. at Townes Funeral Home, 389 Hwy. 51 in Batesville. Burial will be in Batesville Cemetery. Townes Funeral Home has charge.

Hall, born Sept. 16, 1975, to Jimmy Hall of Batesville and Georgia Hall of Pope, was a member of West Batesville Baptist Church. He was self employed and owned Myron Hall Plumbing Company.

Survivors in addition to parents include: four sons, Myron Hall Jr., Da’Myrion Hall and Kirterius Corley, all of Courtland and Jamyron Emmanuel Corley of Hattiesburg; three daughters, ShaMyra Hall and Mya Hall, both of Courtland and Adreanna Pegues of Batesville; four brothers, LaTroy Hall of Courtland and Dontrell Hall, of Batesville, Jaylen Hall of Batesville and Tewayne Mitchell of Senatobia; three sisters, Sharonda Lee of Courtland, Jennifer Hall of Batesville and Tamara Luster of New Orleans.

Lawrence Mack Kuykendoll
BATESVILLE––Lawrence Mack “Bop” Kuykendoll Jr., 57, died Saturday, June 6, 2015, at Golden Living Center.

Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Olive M.B. Church in Batesville. Pastor C.J. Battle will officiate. Visitation will be held Friday from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Cooleys’ Mortuary and Friday 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at St. Paul U.M. Church. Burial will be in New Bethlehem Church Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Kuykendoll, born Feb. 10, 1958 in Batesville, to Lawrence Kuykendoll Sr. of Batesville and the late Dora Lee Young, was a self employed car mechanic and a member of St. Paul U.M. Church.

Survivors, along with his father, include: one son, LaMorrie Kuykendoll of Texas; two daughters, Lyneshia Moore and Nashunti Reeves, both of Batesville; one sister, Loretta Kuykendoll of Batesville and six grandchildren.

Rushia Mozell Robinson
Rushia Mozell Robinson, 104, died Monday, June 8, 2015, at her residence in the Bynum Community.

Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Green M.B. Church. Dr. Preston Gleeton will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Green Cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home has charge.

A native of Yalobusha County, she was the daughter of Thomas Bishop and Narcissa Smith Bishop. She was a member of Pleasant Green M. B Church in Water Valley where she served on the Mother Board and in the choir.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lexie Robinson.

Survivors include: three daughters, Dorothy Coleman of Markham, Ill., Erie Fouche’ and Vera Love, both of Memphis; four sons, James Robinson of Memphis, Isom Robinson and Lexie Gene Robinson both of Water Valley and Joseph Robinson of Markham, Ill.; 32 grandchildren, and a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and great-great-great grandchildren.
