Borned Black
SARDIS––Borned Black, 86, died Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at Mehthodist Healthcare Hospice.

Services will be held Saturday, June 6 at 11 a.m. at Howard Chapel C.M.E. Church in Como. Burial will be in Mt. Level M.B. Church Cemetery in Como. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home has charge.

Survivors include: seven daughters, Lavorne Rudd of Aberdeen, Mary Jones and Arnetta Palmer, Jerri Love and Mary Carter, all of Memphis, Annie Claira McGlothian of Sardis and Remell Glenn of Houston, Texas; five sons, Marvin Black of Denver, Colo, Elvis Black of El Paso, Texas, Andrew Black of Garland, Texas, Booker T. Black of Houston and Sanders Black of Sardis; 25 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Odis R. Goodwin
STARKVILLE––Odis R. Goodwin, 90, died Friday, May 29, 2015 in Meridian. He was the son of the late John A. Goodwin and Allie Johnson Goodwin of Sardis.

 Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, June 2, from 10-11 a.m. at Starkville Church of Christ with the service immediately following at 11 a.m. conducted by Perry Jinkerson.  Graveside services follow at 4 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery in Sardis, conducted by Jay Street.

 He was a member of the Starkville Church of Christ and was an Army Veteran of World War II, where he served in the New Guinea Campaign and received the Bronze Star.

He attended Northwest Community College in Senatobia and the University of Mississippi in Oxford. 

 Survivors include: his wife of 59 years, Wilma Street Goodwin of Starkville; daughter, Marsha Kay Ethridge of Meridian; sons, Gary Street Goodwin of Columbus,  Paul Ashley Goodwin of Madison and Bently Craig Goodwin of Memphis; and eight grandchildren.

 Memorial donations may be made to University Christian Student Center, c/o Starkville Church of Christ, 1107 E. Lee Blvd, Starkville, Miss. 39759.

Amos E. Harrison
POPE––Amos E. Harrison, 81, died Sunday, May 31, 2015.

Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with interment to follow in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Pope.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 – 8 p.m. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Mr. Harrison was born March 1, 1934 in Ripley, Tenn. to the late Thomas Duel and Rachil Lena Brown Harrison.

A longtime Panola Countian, he  worked in construction, farming, and raising cows and horses.
He has owned several businesses in the Pope community. He and his wife, Dean, first opened Country Kitchen in the 1970’s and went on to operate Amico Food Shop in Pope.
They also owned The Back Porch on Highway 51 in Pope until an untimely fire several years ago.

He was also a member of the Batesville Masonic Lodge for over 50 years.

Survivors include: his wife, Dean Smith Harrison of Pope; three sons, Michael Hardy of Madison, Ala., Reginald O’Conner of Pope, Dwayne Harrison of Southaven; two sisters, Joyce Fitzgerald of Oxnard, Calif., Eldridge Childress of Ripley, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

The family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the Shriners Children Hospital, 3100 Samford Ave., Shreveport, LA 71103

Reco Demond Leland
BATESVILLE––Reco Demond Leland, 27, died Tuesday, May 26, 2015, in Courtland.

Services will be held today at Mt. Zion M.B. Church in Batesville. Pastor Zannie Leland will officiate. Burial will be in Bethlehem Church Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Leland, born Oct. 21, 1987, in Batesville, to Barney Young of Batesville and the late Margaret Leland, attended school in the South Panola School District.

He was a member of Mt. Zion M.B. Church.

Survivors along with his father include: his grandmother who raised him, Lillie Leland of Batesville; one daughter, Madison Wells of Batesville; two brothers, Jonathan Joy of Batesville and Lesley Broomfield of Peoria, Ill.; three sisters, Monica Pollard and Courtney Leland of Batesville, and Nicole Whitaker of Minnesota.

Larry Richard Trusty
CHARLESTON––Larry Richard Trusty, 62, died Sunday, May 31, 2015 in Batesville.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 2, at 11 a.m. with interment to follow at Magnolia Garden Cemetery. Brentwood Funeral Home has charge.

Mr. Trusty, born to the late Bobby and Lynn Trusty, was self employed as a painter.

Survivors include: his daughter, Paige Evans of Courtland; one son, Tony Trusty of Courtland; sisters,  Dixie (Delbert) Smith of Lambert, Barbara (Gerald) Bailey of Vicksburg, Vicki Shaw of Charleston; one brother Johnny (Mary Jane) Trusty of Greenwood; two grandchildren, Jack Evans and Emma Evans both of Courtland.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

John Patrick Perry
SARDIS––John Patrick Perry, 52, died Friday, May 29, 2015, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

He was the husband of Betty Perry of Sardis.

A memorial service for Mr. Perry was held Sunday, May 31 at First Faith Baptist Church in Batesville.

Perry, born March 2, 1963 to the late Norman Perry Sr. and Dorothy Woodard Perry in Batesville, worked as a painter and carpenter.

He was a Mason and Shriner and member of First Faith Baptist Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Betty Darby Perry of Sardis; daughter Leslie Carol Perry and son Patrick Loren Perry, both of Sardis; one grandson, Patrick Hopper of Sardis; sister, Addie Marie Smith of Batesville; four brothers, Norman Perry Jr., Joseph Perry and Clarence Sluder all of Batesville and Henry Sluder of Cape Coral, Fla.
