By Rita Howell
Memorial Day programs are planned for next Monday in Batesville and Sardis.
The Sardis American Legion, Auxiliary, Sons of the Legion and Legion Riders Post 127 will sponsor a program at 10 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery. Bob Kent will speak, and then flags will be distributed among participants who can place them on graves of friends and loved ones.
In Batesville the VFW Post 4967 will host a program for the public at 11 a.m. at the VFW building on Highway 51 South. The program will include a presentation of the colors by the South Panola High School Air Force JROTC color guard, and music by the South Panola High School Choir. Also participating in the program will be Boy Scouts of Troop 68, Harry Bryan and Marcia Land Kilpatrick.
Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. In case of rain, the event will move inside the VFW building.
At Cornerstone Baptist Church a Memorial Day service is planned at 11 a.m. Sunday.
And at Faith Tabernacle a special day is planned Sunday to honor the community’s firefighters, law enforcement personnel and other first responders. The service starts at 11 a.m.
