Burglary thwarted by alert resident

By John Howell
An alert resident of Westmoreland Circle apparently thwarted a vehicle burglary when he spotted the suspect rifling through his vehicle and punched him a couple of times.

Batesville Police Department Patrolman Eric Conlee’s report stated that the attempt occurred about 12:45 a.m. Sunday morning.

The would-be victim told the officer that he confronted the would-be burglar who then walked toward him.

The intended victim told the officer, “that he pushed the subject into the truck and hit him twice and the subject fled down the driveway,” according to the report.

The suspect was described as a black male about five feet, seven inches tall wearing all-black clothing except for a blue New York Yankees baseball cap that he wore backwards on his head. He also said the suspect wore a “scruffy beard.”

Nothing was missing from the victim’s vehicle, he told the officer.

In other weekend police activity, Patrolman Justin Davis investigated a two-vehicle accident Saturday at Love’s Truck Stop, 725 Hwy. 35 North.

Davis found no injuries and completed a private property accident report about the wreck.
BPD Lt. Ruby Myers arrested Courtney Paige Caine for simple possession of marijuana at 695 Highway 6 East, her report stated. The arrest took place about 6:40 p.m. Saturday.
