Robert Grafton Coleman Jr.
SARDIS––Robert Grafton Coleman Jr., 87, died Friday, September 26, 2014, at his residence.

Services were held Wednesday at Ray Nowell Funeral Home in Sardis. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.  Hal Johnson officiated. Ray Nowell Funeral Home had charge.

Coleman, born Aug. 24, 1927 in Panola County, to the late Robert Grafton Coleman Sr. and Cora Zella Dean Coleman, was a painter, a member of Batesville Church of Christ and a World War II veteran of the U. S. Army.

He was preceded in death by one son, Dennis Coleman.

Survivors include: his wife, Doris S. Coleman of Choctaw; two daughters, Janice Hampton of Richland, Wash. and Wanda Luke of Noxapater; one son, Keith Coleman of Hernando; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Sardis Public Library, 101 McLaurin, Sardis, Miss. 38666.

Michael David Cox Sr.
BROWNSBORO, Texas ––Michael David Cox Sr., 62, formerly of Batesville, died Tuesday, September 30, 2014.

Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Rock Hill Baptist Church. Rev. Robert Welch Jr. and Rev. Danny Bristow are officiating. Burial will be in Rock Hill Cemetery of Brownsboro. Chandler Memorial Funeral Home has charge.

Cox, born Jan. 3, 1952 in Batesville, to L. D. Cox of Brownstown, Ind. and the late Frances Cox, owned Cox Dozer Service in Brownsboro.

Survivors, in addition to his father, include: his wife, Lisa Cox of Brownboro; two sons, Michael David Cox Jr. and Richard Dee Cox, both of Pope; a daughter, Jodi Cox Padgett of Brownsboro; one brother, Robert Ruffin of Pope; one sister, Eliabeth Ruffin of Pope and five grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rock Hill Baptist Church, 20022 Hwy. 31 East, Brownsboro, Texas, 75756.

Mary Evelyn Graham Dooley
OXFORD––Mary Evelyn Graham Dooley, 66, died Sunday, September 28, 2014, at her residence. She was the widow of Joe Dooley who worked in Batesville as a mechanic for over 30 years.

Services were held Wednesday at North Oxford Baptist Church. Bros. Fish Robinson and Jerry East officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Coleman Funeral Home had charge.
Dooley, daughter of the late Sam and Lou Graham, was a retired office manager for Reliable Glass and Paint.

Survivors include: one son, Robert Keith Chambers of Dallas; one daughter, Tashia Berryhill Moody of Oxford; two brothers, James Linder Graham of Oxford and William Harvey Graham of Water Valley; two sisters, Brenda Sue Watson and Joyce Ann Croft, both of Oxford; one step-daughter, Melissa Whitehead of Independence; two step-sons, Joey Dooley of Abbeville and Matthew Dooley of Gulf Shores, Ala. and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 8217, Jackson, Miss. 39284-8217.

Dennis Leon Milton
BATESVILLE –– Dennis Leon Milton, 57, died Tuesday, September 30, 2014, in Temple Texas.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at New Bethlehem M.B. Church. Pastor Jeffery K. McMullen will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held today 2:30 p.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary, who has charge of arrangements.

Milton, born April 29, 1957, in Sardis, to the late Sell Milton and Callie Moore Milton, was a member of New Bethlehem M.B. Church.

Survivors include: two sisters, Doris Ford of Batesville and Linda Baker of Birmingham.

Billie C. Garner
BATESVILLE–– Billie C. Garner, 85, died Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at her residence.

Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Batesville Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be held Sunday 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home and also Monday from 10 a.m. until service time.
Garner, born Aug. 12, 1929,  to the late Marietta McNeely and Kendrick Alton Commer, was a member of Batesville Presbyterian Church. She graduated from Batesville High School and attended Belhaven College She retired from the Panola County School District where she worked as bookkeeper and office manager for the cafeteria and food services department.
She was preceded in death by her husband, B. H. Garner.

Survivors include: three sons, William Frank Garner of Chapel Hill, N.C., Paul Martin Garner of The Woodlands, Texas, and Andrew Kendrick Garner of Batesville; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Robert Lee “Bobby” Jay
MENTONE, Ala.––Robert Lee “Bobby” Jay, 74, died Saturday, September 27, 2014, at his residence. He was the brother of Elton Jay and brother-in-law of Sonia Jay of Batesville.

Services will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until service time. Ron Reynolds will officiate. Burial will be in Tate Family Cemetery. Mason Funeral Home has charge.

Jay, born June 10, 1940, in Savannah, Tenn., to the late Elton Edward Jay Sr. and Virginia Keathley Hurst Jay Covey, was adopted at an early age after the death of his parents by the late Forrest and Gertie Hurst Morrow, the sister and brother-in-law of his mother. He was a member of the Southport Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis, Ind. for 30 years where he served as Sunday School Teacher, Youth Sponsor, Deacon, and Elder.  He currently attended Howard’s Chapel in Mentone, Ala.  He was retired from Rolls Royce where he was employed as an Aeronautical Engineer.

Survivors along with his brother and sister-in-law include: his wife, Mary Speed Jay; daughters, Mary Jennifer Jay Pyke and Julie Leigh Jay; a sister Darryl Perkins and four grandchildren.

Clyde Bryant Phillips Jr.
JACKSON––Clyde Bryant Phillips Jr., 94, formerly of Como, died September 27, 2014 at the Arbor Terrace facility in Athens, Ga.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Madison, Ga. followed by internment of ashes at the Friendship Cemetery in Como on Saturday, October 18. Lord and Stephens, East of Athens has charge.

Phillips, born Aug. 8, 1920, in Como, to the late Clyde Bryant Phillips Sr. and Jeffie Williams Phillips, graduated from Como High School and attended Mississippi State University where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He served as a Naval Aviator in the Pacific theater during World War II. He was a member of Como Methodist Church while living in Como and a member of the Mississippi Seniors Golf Association and the Christ Methodist Church in Jackson.
He began a business career in Como as the proprietor of a service station. After joining the B. F. Goodrich Company, he became vice president before his retirement to Jackson in 1983.
Survivors include: his wife, Leslie; sons Clyde Bryant Phillips III of Melbourne, Fla. and William Leslie Phillips of Greenville, S.C.; daughter Sally Phillips Buffington of Madison, Ga.; brother Perry Eugene Phillips of Jackson; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Virginia Anderson Stewart
CALHOUN CITY––Virginia Anderson Stewart, 77, died Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at Calhoun City Nursing Home. She was the grandmother of T.J. Prince of Batesville.

Services were held Thursday in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home. Keith Burney officiated. Burial was in Palestine Cemetery in Yalobusha. Seven Oaks Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Stewart, was born September 30, 1937 in Water Valley, to the late Robert and Pauline Carter Anderson.  She was a retired seamstress for Big Yank in Water Valley and a member of the Water Valley Assembly of God church.   She was preceded in death by one son: Robert Earl Stewart.

Survivors along with her grandchild include: daughters, Janeen Henry and Peggy Baggett both of Water Valley; two sisters, Mary Lois Landreth and Amy Brown both of Water Valley; five grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Albert “Bert” Young Jr.
BATESVILLE––Albert “Bert” Young Jr., 55, died Friday, September 26, 2014, at his residence.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Visitation will be held today 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Burial will be in Eureka Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Young, born March 28, 1959 in Batesville, to the late Albert Young Sr. and Bertha Mae Pegues, graduated from South Panola High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines and a member of Liberty Hill M.B. Church.

Survivors include: four brothers, Rev. Bobby Young, Rev. Billy Young and Harry Young, all of Des Moines, Iowa, Larry Young of Batesville; four sisters, Eunice Adair, Ella Mae Carr and Janice Walls, all of Des Moines, Iowa and Dorothy Young Holmes of Batesville.


Jimmy Wright

SENATOBIA––Jimmy Wright, 54, died Monday, September 29, 2014, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. He was the son of James Wright of Crenshaw and the late Jewel Wright.
Services were held Thursday at Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia. Burial was in Longtown Cemetery.

Wright was a member of Highland Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by one son, Jeremy Glen.

Survivors along with his father, include: his wife, Kathy Collums Wright of Senatobia; one son, John Wayne of Horn Lake; one sister, Cindy Dye of Southaven and five grandchildren.
