Willie Roy Brown

MEMPHIS – Willie Roy Brown, 61, died Tuesday, March 4, 2014 in Memphis. He was the brother of Annie Mae Hunter and Climmie Brown, both of Como.

Funeral services were Saturday, March 8 at Independent Tyro M. B. Church in Senatobia. Rodgers Funeral Home had charge.

Brown was a truck driver.

Also surviving him are his wife, Gloria Brown of Memphis; four daughters, Sonia Brown of Atlanta, Shari Craig, LaQuita White and Shannon Davison, all of West Memphis, Ark.; son Kynta King of Senatobia; sister Willie Ann Pratcher of Memphis; brothers James Brown of Senatobia; Dewey Brown Jr. and Tommy Brown, both  of Memphis, Simmie Brown of Brownsville, Tenn.; and 17 grandchildren.

Gladys O. Burdette

Memphis – Gladys O. Burdette, 95, formerly of Sardis, died Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Baptist East in Memphis.

Funeral services were Saturday, March 8, at McIvor M. B. Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Hodges-Freeman Funeral Home in Oxford had charge of arrangements

She was a member of Rock Hill M. B. Church and a retired nurse’s assistant.

Survivors include three sons, Curtis Burdette of Peoria, Ill.; Michael C. Burdette of Memphis; Tobia S. Burdette of Nashville; five daughters, Evelyn Boddie, Mae E. Smith, Dorothy Thaxton, all of Memphis; Elnora Turner of Washington, D. C.; Faye Williams of Cleveland; 18 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Earl Daniels

MARKS – Earl “Hook” Daniels, 80, died Sunday, March 9, 2014 in Marks. 

Services were held Monday, March 10 at Kimbro Funeral Home Chapel, who had charge of arrangements. Interment was at Lambert Cemetery.

Daniels was a farmer, retired employee of MDOT, a member of Walnut Baptist Church, and Tutwiler Masonic Lodge. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, I. E. and Ola Morris Daniels.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Daniels of Marks; son Robert Daniels of Marks; four sisters Jean Allen,  Wanda (Joe) Hall, Nelda Eagen, all of Tocopola and Myrine Koger of Lambert; two brothers W. D. (Jeanette) Daniels of Pontotoc, Frankie (Nancy) Daniels of Tupelo, and granddaughter Morgan Elizabeth Daniels of Marks.

Memorial contributions may be made to West Marks Baptist Church.

Angela Jones Ellis

COURTLAND – Angela “Angie” Jones Ellis, 49, died Thursday, March 6, 2014, at her home in Courtland.

Funeral services were held Sunday, March 9 at Shiloh United Methodist Church with Rev. Chris Cooksey presiding. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Ellis was born in Batesville on April 14, 1964 to Joel Eugene and Alice Lorene Vaughan Jones of Batesville. She worked as a case worker for the Mississippi Department of Health and Human Services in Sardis.

Survivors in addition to her parents include her husband, Mike Ellis of Courtland; a daughter, Anna Shepard Camp of Courtland; a sister, Jenny Jones Sullivant of Batesville, one brother, Jason Jones of Batesville; and two grandchildren.

Clarene Ford

BATESVILLE – Clarene Ford, 64, died March 5, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis.

Visitation will be at Cooley’s Mortuary today from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 12 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church, with Kent Brown officiating. Burial will be in Batesville Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge of arrangements.

Ford was born in Batesville, September 14, 1949 to the late Russell Jr. and Clara Johnson Ford. She attended school in the South Panola District and was a member of St. Paul UMC.

Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Ford, of Batesville; four brothers, Charles Ford and Jerry Ford of Batesville, and James Ford and Chester Ford, both of Milwaukee; one sister, Dorothy Brown of Batesville; and one grandchild.

Kenneth Ray Mayo

SARDIS – Kenneth Ray Mayo, 64, died Wednesday, March 5, 2014, in Sardis. Funeral services were held Monday, March 10 at Kimbro Funeral Home Chapel who had charge of arrangements. Interment was at Longtown Cemetery.

Mayo was a truck driver with Big Mack Trucking and a member of Hollywood Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, S. T. and Beulah Mayo.

Survivors include his daughter, Kimberly Dawn Gray of Batesville; sisters, Billy Fay Avant of Grenada, Ethel Floyd of Tunica, Minnie Guest of Horn Lake, Opal Dover and Betty Collums, both of Crenshaw and brother Wayne Mayo of Marks, and one granddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Johnnie Boyd Moorehead

COMO – Johnnie Boyd Moorehead, 81, died Saturday, March 1, 2014 at his residence. 

Funeral services will be Saturday, March 15 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Level M. B. Church, with the Rev. Frison officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Level Cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home has charge.

Moorehead was born January 22, 1933 in Como to the late Napoleon Moorehead and Janie Vaughn Moorehead.

He was educated in North Panola Schools and worked as in industrial mechanic with John Deere. He was a member of Mt. Level Church.

Survivors include four daughters, Jearlene Moorehead and Doris Ann Moorehead, both of Memphis, Lucy Moorehead of Como, and Tamika Moorehead of Senatobia; two sons, Johnny Moorehead Jr. and Willie Moorehead, both of Como; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
