Youth injured in hunting accident

By Rupert Howell
An 11-year-old male was still in stable condition following surgery at LeBonheur Hospital in Memphis after he was accidentally shot while he and his 14-year-old brother were deer hunting shortly before noon Tuesday, according to Panola County Sheriff’s Detective Bryan Arnold.
Arnold said the brothers were hunting east of Como, climbing into a deer stand when one of their weapons went off, striking the younger brother in the upper left chest.

The sheriff department detective said both brothers were students in Tate County schools that were closed Tuesday, but were Panola County residents. Arnold said Thursday the youth was expected to remain in the hospital for four to five more days.

Youth gun and primitive weapon deer season extends through today.
