January benefit set for patient needing double lung transplant

I would like to let the community know of a benefit auction and chili dinner taking place at the Batesville Lions Club, from 5 to 8 p.m. Jan. 11, 2014, for our mother, Alice Tillie. She has been diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis and a rare autoimmune disease that causes her body to attack her lungs, leaving her on full-time oxygen and with only 60 percent lung capacity.

In order to live, she has to have a double lung transplant. She has mounting medical expenses, and on Dec. 18 she will under go her first evaluation in the lung transplant process. She is currently undergoing pulmonary physical therapy to strengthen her body for the transplant.
There are many steps in this process, and even though she has insurance, there is a lot that her insurance doesnít cover. Therefore, we are raising money for her current and future medical expenses.

Once she is put on the transplant list, she will have to move to Nashville to await her donor lungs, and the surgery will be performed at Vanderbilt Hospital. After the transplant she will remain in Nashville for up to four months for rehabilitation.

Our mother served this community by working at the Dept. of Human Services in Sardis for 12 years. She retired in Dec., 2012. She has been married to our dad 45 years, has four daughters, 10 grandchildren and one on the way.

We are asking that anyone willing to donate items for our auction to contact Melissa Towles, 662-703-9211.

Also, a bank account has been set up for donations at First Security Bank in Batesville.
We would like to thank everyone for helping our mother in this time of need. We have had an outpouring of love and support from our community and would like to see everyone at the benefit dinner and auction. Help our mother live!
