Donation for Sardis city police gear comes at too high a price

I was and still am sickened when I read that a man convicted of child molestation, with a history of criminal convictions, has been given a 15-year suspended sentence by a judge. And just who was it that recommended this? And who will provide the supervision?

And then the mayor of Sardis and the board of aldermen accept $3,000 from the same felon as a donation. And the board attorney, affixed his amen to it that it was a legal donation.

I pray all these people will be able to live with themselves.

I believe it is a direct, deliberate slap in the face to all parents with young children, not to mention society as a whole, the grandparents, aunts and other family members and loved ones who try to watch over them and keep them safe.

I am not unaware that it was said the money would go to buy bullet-proof vests for Sardis policemen.

I support them having the vests in a huge way.

I simply believe the money could have come from somewhere else and we would not have to pay such an outrageous price for them.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
