Crenshaw Assistant Fire Chief Hubert Joyner, 56, died August 8 at the Regional Medical Center in Memphis.

He was being treated for complications from injuries he sustained when a section of cinder block wall at We Care Community Center in Crenshaw collapsed on him July 22.

He was the husband of Celeste Joyner and had been a member of the Crenshaw Fire Department for over 20 years.

“He was a sincere person who gave and didn’t expect anything in return,” said Crenshaw Mayor Oscar Barlow.

A fund has been set up for his family. Donations can be made at any First Security Bank in Panola County.
