Minnie Braxton

MEMPHIS — Minnie Braxton, 62, formerly of Muncie, Ind., died Thursday, July 29, 2013. She was the daughter of Lucille Davis Burner of Como.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Full Gospel Tabernacle in Memphis. Visitation will be held Friday 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Cistern Hill Cemetery in Como. Rodgers Funeral Home has charge.

She was a member of Full Gospel Tabernacle Church and a receptionist.

Survivors along with her mother include: three daughters, Tormika Braxton of Anderson, Ind., Tamberlla Braxton-Simpson of Jacksonville, Fla. and Latier Braxton of Memphis; one son, Brandon Braxton Glover of Minneapolis; one sister, Luvenia Davis Johnson of Muncie; one brother, Melvin Burner of Memphis; eight grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Charlie W. Brown Jr.

SARDIS — Charlie W. Brown Jr., 54, died Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at the V.A. Hospital in Memphis.
Services were held Tuesday at Church of God in Longtown. Rev. Walter Sanders Jr. officiated. Burial was in Askew Grove Cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home had charge.

Brown, born Sept. 5, 1959, to Jessie Mae Brown of Sardis and the late Charlie Brown Sr., attended North Panola School and was a member of Longtown Church of God.

Survivors, along with his mother include: two daughters, Latoya Reed of Sardis and Lauren Talbert of Chicago and his grandmother, Maggie Oliver of Sardis.

Mary Jean Johnson Callahan

BATESVILLE — Mary Jean Johnson Callahan, 92, died Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto.

Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Dickins Funeral Home. Visitation will be held 1 p.m. until services. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.

Callahan, born to the late William Lawrence Johnson and Mary Harper Thompson Johnson, was a member of Batesville Presbyterian Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Callahan and one daughter, Mary Virginia Vetzel.
Survivors include: one sister, Virginia Beeson of Fall Brook, Calif.; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.


Gerald Tex Patton

POPE — Gerald Tex Patton, 60, died Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at his residence.

Services were held Thursday at Hosanna Family Worship Center. Burial was in McIvor Cemetery. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home had charge.

He was a member of Hosanna Worship Center.

Survivors include: his wife, Linda Clark Patton of Pope; three daughters, Melissa Irwin and April Patton, both of Batesville and Amanda Patton of Grenada; one sister, Joyce Lamb of Oakland; two brothers, Leon Patton of Oakland and Jessie Patton of Pope; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Harry David Ross

BATESVILLE — Harry David Ross, 65, died Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at his residence.

Services will be held  Saturday at 11 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Al Mullan will officiate. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home.
Ross, born to the late James Hall and Peggy Joyce Farmer Lambert, on November 8, 1947, in Corinth, served in the United States Army where he piloted Cessna aircraft. His main profession was a registered nurse. He was a member of Enon Baptist Church and a 32 degree Mason in the Memphis Chapter. He served as deputy sheriff for St. Francis County in Arkansas and was a member of the Crowder Volunteer Fire Department. He was a taxidermist who worked from his home and formerly worked as a bodyguard for Jerry Lee Lewis.

Survivors include: his wife, Kay Bailey Ross of Batesville; brother, Ricky Lambert of Corinth.

Toy Abram Tedford Jr.
WAVELAND — Toy Abram Tedford Jr., 79, died Monday, July 29, 2013.
Private memorial services were held Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Bay St. Louis. Edmond Fahey Funeral Home in Bay St. Louis had charge.
Born September 27, 1933 in Darling, to Teazle Willie (Williams) and Toy Tedford, Sr., he served in the U.S. Army. He taught math and coached at Batesville High School as well as Locke Station. He retired as an engineer from Ingalls Shipbuilding.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, Bay St. Louis.

Survivors include: his wife, Peggy Jo (Bell) Tedford of Waveland; one daughter, Rebecca Jo Tedford Pardington; one sister, Martha Annne Hubbard of Courtland and two grandchildren.

Dorothy Mae Webb

SARDIS — Dorothy Mae Webb, 43, died Monday, July 29, 2013, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services will be held Saturday at Mt. Gillion M.B. Church at 2 p.m. Pastor Walter Newsom will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Gillion Church Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Webb was born Jan. 24, 1970, in Dundee, to Lizzie Mae Lymon Webb of Batesville and the late Causey Sanders.

Survivors along with her mother include: three sisters, Mable L. Lantern of Sardis, Glenda A. Jackson of Chicago and Ruby J. Spears of Batesville; two brothers, L.C. Webb Sr. and Willie J. Webb, both of Batesville.
