Douglas McArthur Ellis

BATESVILLE – Douglas McArthur Ellis, 35, died Thursday, July 4, 2013.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Good Hope M.B. Church. Pastor Darrell Ellis will officiate. Burial will be in Good Hope Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Ellis, born Oct. 11, 1977, in Batesville, to Douglas McArthur Ellis and Emma Carr, was a member of St. Peters M.B. Church. He attended South Panola High School.

Survivors include: his mother, Emma Carr of Batesville; wife, Janie Ellis of Sardis; four daughters, Alisha Lee, Yonna Lee, Alisha Tutor, all of Batesville, Stormy Williams of Sardis; six brothers, Bryan Wright, Patrick Thomas, Donnell Williams and James Wright, all of Batesville, Gary Ellis of Courtland, Doug Diggs of Marquette, Mich. and two sisters, Teresa Ellis of Sardis and Patricia Diggs of Marquette, Mich.

Mindy Darby Harris

HATTIESBURG – Mindy Darby Harris, 42, died Saturday, July 6, 2013. She was the daughter of Neil and Anna Darby, formerly of Batesville, of Columbia.

Memorial services were held Wednesday, July 10, at Hardy Street Baptist Church. Burial was in Highland Cemetery. Dr. Bryant Barnes, Rev. Wayne Ward, and Rev. Tom Thurman all of First Baptist Church, Columbia, officiated. Moore Funeral Home had charge.

She was a graduate of South Natchez High School, Copiah-Lincoln Community College, and Mississippi State University. She was employed f as a printing clerk at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
Survivors along with her parents include: her husband, Bill Harris of Hattiesburg, , sisters, Dawn Dias of Columbia, Terri Moore of Arlington, Texas, and Jessica Kirkpatrick of Petal.  her mother and father-in-law, Nell and Kim Harris of Gulf Shores, Ala.

L.C. Jenkins

WATER VALLEY – SGT. L.C. “Babe” Jenkins, 80, died Sunday, July 7, 2013, in Batesville as the result of an automobile accident.

Services will be held at  12:00 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2013, at the Water Valley City Auditorium. Rev. Mitchell Steen will officiate. Burial will be in Bayson Chapel Cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.

He was the son of Charlie and Minnie Jenkins. He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he was a Staff Sergeant. He retired from John Deere in Waterloo, IA, after seventeen years of service. He loved to hunt, fish and ride his motorcycle. He was the widower of Henry Rene Jenkins.

 He is survived by two sons, Curtis Jenkins of Waterloo, IA and Nigel Street of Courtland; one brother – Marvin Jenkins of Waterloo, IA and a cousin who was raised like a brother – Raybon Jenkins of Water Valley.

Calvin Lee Jones Sr.

BATESVILLE – Calvin Lee Jones Sr., 40, died Thursday, July 4, 2013.

Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Batesville Junior High Auditorium. Rev. Zannie Leland will officiate. Burial will be in Macedonia Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Jones, born May 3, 1973, in Batesville, to Claudie Mae Valentine of Batesville and the late Leroy Jones Valentine, graduated from South Panola High School. He was a school bus driver for the South Panola School District and a member of Shady Grove M.B. Church. He was a member of Panola Riders Motorcyle Club and was a Mason in Crowder 6-A Lodge.

Survivors, along with his mother include: seven sons, Calvin Jones, Calvin Jones Jr. Drelon Porter, Jaylon Porter, and De’Mario Jones, all of Batesville, Dae John Harrell and Caldree Kious Harrell, both of Helena, Ark.; two daughters, Destiny Harrell  of Helena, and Tierra Jones of Batesville; seven brothers, Leroy Jones and John Jones, both of Sardis, Bobby Jones, Wallace Valentine, J.W. Jones, Rick Jones and Robert Jones Jr., all of Batesville; seven sisters, Ella Owens, Mattie Jones, Dorothy Jones, Rosie Jones, Doll Jones and Eloise Robertson, all of Batesville and Glory Hickenbottom of Oxford; and three grandchildren.

Myrtle Beatrice Tillman O’Neal

COLDWATER – Myrtle Beatrice Tillman O’Neal, 79, died Saturday, July 6, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. She was the mother of Kay Dean and Clara Goodwin, both of Crenshaw.

Services were held Wednesday at Ray Nowell Funeral Home in Senatobia.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard O’Neal; two daughters, Milly O’Neal and Kathy Chambers.

Survivors along with her daughters include: four daughters, Judy Youngblood and Sue Gowens of Sarah, Fay Lane of Tunica and Stephanie O’Neal of Horn Lake; one son, Howard Eugene O’Neal of Tunica; two sisters, Barbara Parker and Katherine Wade; two brothers, Roy Tillman and Kenny Tillman; 19 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.
