SP Lady Tigers take down Tupelo in district action

The South Panola Lady Tigers opened district play on the road with a win at Tupelo, 7-3.

The Lady Tigers (7-2, 1-0) defeated the Tupelo Lady Golden Wave (4-12, 1-3) 7-3 but it took them until the top of the fourth to score.

Tupelo jumped out on a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. South Panola woke up in the bottom of the fourth and started hitting.

Nicole Fullilove started the frame with a double to center.

Amanda Ivy followed with a single. Fullilove scored on a Hannah Moore single. Moore was out at second on a fielder’s choice as Marla Rudd got on first. Savanna Williams slammed a two RBI double to drive home Ivy and Rudd.Williams scored on a sac-bunt fromChresha Brown.

The Lady Tigers had a 4-1 lead over Tupelo going into the seventh inning. Mallory Myers got the action started in the top of the frame hitting a single to left field. Haley Reid laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Myers to second. Madison Taylor singled to center sending Myers home for an RBI. Fullilove grounded to third advancing Taylor to second.

Ivy tripled to drive Taylor home. While Moore was at bat Ivy scored on an error by the catcher to give the Lady Tigers seven runs.

Tupelo scored two in the bottom of the frame on a single and two doubles.

Getting hits were Taylor, Moore, Williams, one each; Fullilove, Ivy and Myers, two each. Getting RBIs was Fullilove, Moore, Brown and Williams 2.

Fullilove picked up the win allowing eight hits, three runs, three errors, two walks and 10 strikeouts. 

The Lady Tigers were back in district play hosting Grenada for the Annual Strike Out Cancer game yesterday and won 5-2.

Today the junior varsity team game at Hernando has been canceled due to the weather. Tomorrow the varsity team will take on Clinton in a game at Grenada to finish out the week.

The South Panola junior varsity fastpitch team defeated Tupelo 5-3 Tuesday on the road. In top of the first Darbi Smith lead off with a hit followed by Taylor Utz who put down a bunt and the pitcher made a throwing error to 2nd allowing both Smith and Utz to score. In the top of the third Hailey Rikard lead off with a base hit up the middle then Smith reached base on a walk advancing Rikard to second. 

Utz followed by reaching base due to an error on third and Rikard scored the third run. Madison Morgan grounded to the pitcher. Terri Tidwell got a base hit scoring Smith and Utz.

South Panola got four hits while Tupelo had three.
