Thursday roast ribs Carlson for worthy causes

Thursday night will mark the third Celebrity Roast sponsored by Panola County Community Foundation with assistance from South Panola Athletic Foundation.

The fact that it coincides with Valentine’s Day is a good excuse for husbands and boyfriends to take their significant other out for a catered dinner, entertainment and socializing, with chocolate dessert to set the mood.

Retired Mississippi Supreme Court Justice George C. Carlson will be the recipient of a night of “ribbings” from close judicial associates as well as a couple of high school coaches who have made the grade—again and again.

Tickets are still available and for those unfamiliar with the event, a large portion goes to the sponsoring foundations because so much of the time and materials needed for the occasion have been donated or volunteered.

Those not familiar with Panola County’s Community Foundation should know the organization attempts to connect people who care with causes that matter. The group attempts to assist or subsidize local non-profits with funding while building a permanent endowment.

Among those assisted by PCCF are: Panola County Food Bank, Boys and Girls Club, E.D.U.C.A.T.E., Libraries in Como, Crenshaw and Sardis, and others.

Plus the group helps facilitate grants used to help the health, education and welfare of Panola County’s children.

Also through PCCF’s sister program, Northwest Mississippi Community Foundation, almost $700,000 has been dispersed in Panola County through charitable grants and programs.

And the importance of SP Athletic Foundation has never been so obvious as it was last week when national and regional media focused on South Panola High School’s media room where 13 young men signed letters of intent to improve their lives by furthering their education by accepting football scholarships.

That foundation kicks in when school money sometimes falls short or isn’t there.

Your attendance will be appreciated.
