Sandra Gail Anthony

BATESVILLE — Sandra Gail Anthony, 62, died Monday, December 3, 2012, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
Services were held Thursday at Wells Funeral Home.  Burial will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Pope.

Dr. Paul Middleton will officiate. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Anthony, born August 17, 1950, in Chicago, to George Raymond and Martha Virginia Roberts Bynum, retired from her career as a cosmetologist after serving the public for many years in the Panola area. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include: her husband of 45 years, Jimmy D. Anthony Sr.; one daughter, Tammy Anthony Cowsert of Pope; one son, Jimmy D. Anthony Jr. of Pope; three brothers, Donald Bynum of Water Valley; Larry Bynum of Chicago, Ill. and Ronald Terry Bynum of Senatobia; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Lula B. Black

BATESVILLE — Lula B. Black, 108, died Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at her residence.

Services will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at Concord M.B. Church in Batesville. Pastor Zannie Leland Jr. will officiate. Visitation will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery in Sardis.

Black, born Dec. 31, 1904, in Batesville, to the late Walter Griffin and Hattie Johnson, was a homemaker and a member of Shiloh C.M.E. Church.

Survivors include: one nephew, Stanley Thomas and four nieces, Wilkie Hentz, Irma Lee Martin, all of Batesville, Lula Bell Childs of Warner, Okla. and Annie Clara Smith of Tulsa, Okla.

Gordon Downs

BATESVILLE–Henry Gordon Downs, 89, died December 4, 2012. Funeral services were held December 6 at Dickins Funeral Home. Burial was in Pisgah Cemetery. Hal Johnson officiated.

Downs was born December 15, 1922 to the late William Henry and Allie Mae Beckham Downs. He was the widower of Minnie Bell Downs.

Survivors include his son, Donald Downs of Batesville and his wife, Melissa; two grandsons, Chris Downs and Matt Downs and his wife, Jessica.

Judith Howard

BATESVILLE — Judith Howard, 50, died Monday, December 3, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Desoto.

Services were held Wendesday at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Terry Caine officiated. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Howard, born July 17, 1962, in New Orleans, La., to Hubert W. and L. Ainsworth Burns, was a Baptist and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her father who raised her, Paul Robert Perkins.

Survivors include: one daughter, Kyra Bell Tyson of Batesville; her mother, Maxine L. Perkins of Oakland; her father, Hubert W. Burns of Bassfield; three sisters, Gwendolyn McMahon of Slidell, La., Rosanna Moore of Horn Lake and Janice Tramel of Oakland; and two grandchildren.

Matthew Martin

POPE — Matthew Martin, 40, died Tuesday, December 4, 2012.

Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Pope Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until service time at the church. Rev. Nehemiah Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Johnson Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church Cemetery. E.H. Ford Mortuary has charge of arrangements.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Avant Martin.

Martin was a member of Pope Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church.

Survivors include: one daughter, Brittney Trantham; two sons, Jerome Ales and Matthew Martin Jr.; his father, Teddy Martin; one sister, Barbara Purnell and three brothers, Titus Avant, Rev. Nehemiah Martin and Mark Martin.

Lula Ford Wallace

COURTLAND — Lula Ford Wallace, 109, died Thursday, November 29, 2012, at her residence.

Memorial services will be held Friday at 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. John Deberry will officiate.

Services will also be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Salem M.B. Church in Courtland with PastoryLarry Itson officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 10 a.m. – 5 :30 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge of arrangements.

Wallace, born Jan. 30, 1903, in Courtland, to the late Lewis Ford and Alice Guinn, was a homemaker and a member of Norris Road Church of Christ in Memphis.

Survivors include: three daughters, Virginia Mack and Margaret Cook, both of Memphis and Minnie Adams of Markham, Ill.; three sons, Calvin Wallace of Courtland, John Wallace of Kansas City, Mo., Tommy Wallace of St. Louis, Mo.; 32 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Flora Angeline Ellis Wells

SARDIS — Flora Angeline Ellis Wells, 84, formerly of Pope, died Saturday, December 1, 2012, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services were held Monday at Dickins Funeral Home. Dr. Gary Berry officiated. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Wells, born June 22, 1928, in Como, to the late Elmer Thomas Ellis and Lillian Trammell Ellis, was a retired factory worker and a member of Pope Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd D. Wells.

Survivors include: three daughters, Vivian Mehan of Pope; Helen Barnes of Olive Branch and Elsie Carolyn Wells of Metairie, La.; one brother, Paul Ellis of St. Louis; one sister, Ruby Merit of Illinois; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Pope Baptist Church nursery.
