Grenada sweeps BJH teams in home opener

In their first home game of the season, the Batesville junior high basketball teams were defeated by Grenada Tuesday.

The Lady Tigers are under new head coach LaCambrise Burgess. Burgess is originally from Batesville and a former Lady Tiger and had been at N. R. Burger Middle School in Hattiesburg for four years where she was head coach for the seventh grade and an assistant for eighth grade.

7th Grade Girls

The Lady Tigers’ seventh grade team played their first game of the season but lost to the Lady Chargers 14-9. Scoring all nine points was Chloe Morgan.

At halftime the Grenada led 5-3 but outscored them 9-6 in the second half.

8th Grade Girls

The Lady Tigers’ eighth grade team lost to Grenada 26-12. Scoring for Batesville were Shakalu Burdette, seven points; Marsia Flowers two; Tracie Benson, Aleriah Flowers and LaQuinya Sanford, one each.

7th Grade Boys

The Tiger’s seventh grade boys’ team lost a close game to Grenada 17-14. The Tigers had an 11-9 lead at the half but Grenada outscored them 8-3 in the second half.

 Justin Perry led with five points followed by Jordan Strong with three. Scoring two points each were Calvin Hankins, Qadar Henderson and Patrick Shegog.

8th Grade Boys

The eighth grade Tigers lost 30-20. Grenada had a two point lead at the half 11-9.

Kelvin Cartwright put up nine points. Also scoring was Katrell Key with five, Josh Cole three, Chad Sanford two and Shootyo Lee with one.

The teams were back in action last night at Senatobia.
