ND downs Tunica in homecoming contest

Austin Hagstrom rushed for 216 yards and three touchdowns as North Delta overcame a sluggish first half to defeat Tunica Academy 34-6 Friday night while Charla Shea Darby was crowned homecoming queen at halftime.

Hagstrom, a Tunica transfer, scored on runs of 79, 30 and 22 yards to help the Green Wave improve to 3-2 on the season. Senior tailback Taylor Morris chipped in with 105 yards on 14 carries while leading the North Delta defense with six tackles and an interception.

Tunica (1-4) jumped to a 6-0 lead with 45 seconds remaining in the first quarter on a seven-yard touchdown pass from Quinn Ware to Jake Graves. North Delta took a 7-6 lead at halftime as Hagstrom scored on a 22-yard run early in the second quarter.

North Delta extended its advantage to 20-6 in the third on Hagstrom’s 30-yard and a 57-yard sprint by Morris. Hagstrom’s 79-yard run followed by quarterback Skyler Lawson’s four-yard run closed scoring in the fourth.

North Delta amasded 343 total yards of offense including 318 yards on the ground. The Green Wave defense held Tunica to 97 yards of offense on the night.

North Delta travels to Marshall next Friday night in a key Division 1-AA tilt. The No. 4 ranked Patriots blanked Indianola 28-0 Friday night.
