The tickets included four tickets for DUI and one for marijuana possession. A majority of the tickets — 22 in all — were written to drivers with no driver’s license.

Other tickets written by sheriff’s deputies included: 13 for no proof of insurance, two tickets for littering, one for expired tag, one for careless driving, and three tickets for suspended license.

Chief Deputy Chris Franklin provided the list of citations to The Panolian.
Franklin said deputies set up Friday, May 25 and rotated at four safety checkpoints on Highway 51, Highway 315 and Highway 310.

The Miss. Highway Patrol reported this week there were no fatalities during the long holiday weekend.

State troopers wrote 8,367 citations statewide, 216 for DUI. Troop E in Batesville wrote 963 citations, 39 for DUI and 216 for no seatbelt.

Mississippi had nine Memorial Day fatalities in 2011, said Joey Miller, a spokesman for the highway patrol.
