SPHS student will receive scouting’s top award Sunday
BJ Simmerman will receive the designation of Eagle Scout during a ceremony Sunday, May 27 at Crowder Baptist Church at 3 p.m.
BJ, son of Barry and Kim Simmerman of Crowder, will be a senior at South Panola High School in the fall. He has been active in Boy Scouts since he became a Tiger Cub in kindergarten. BJ is a member of Troop 478, which is led by Jim Whitten.
BSA requirements for becoming an Eagle Scout include planning and execution of a community project. BJ chose to remodel the youth room area of his church, Crowder Baptist Church. He enlisted the help of friends and fellow scouts to complete the project.
He finished his journey to become an Eagle Scout after meeting with the panel of six adults who determined BJ has met all qualifications.
BJ is the grandson of Murry and Lana Bridges of Crowder and Bill and Lillie Newton of Crowder. He is the brother of Jessica Simmerman.
All friends and interested persons are invited to the Eagle Ceremony. A reception will follow.
