Lady Tigers fall to Southaven

In back to back games with Southaven on Friday and Saturday the South Panola Lady Tiger’s fastpitch softball team (12-4, 2-0) split games with the Lady Chargers (12-5-1).

On Friday the Lady Tigers traveled to Southaven shutting the Lady Chargers out 5-0. Nicole Fullilove was on the mound for the Lady Tigers sitting down 11 at bat and allowing one hit.

The Lady Tigers had 13 hits, left nine on base and one error.

Scoring the five earned runs was Christa Brown, Marla Rudd, Amanda Ivy, Meri Morgan Fortune and Caroline Dickins.

Fortune led the team with three hits, two singles, one double and three RBI. Lauren Calvert had two hits, one single, one double and one RBI. Also getting two hits were Brown and Rudd.

Fullilove had one single and one RBI. Adding one single each was Dickins, Lindsey Calvert and Crystal Contreras.

The Lady Chargers left five on base and had two errors.

Saturday’s game at home for the Lady Tigers was a different story as the Lady Chargers beat them 2-1.
All of the action happened in the first inning. Shortstop Allison Williams got it going with a single to left field. Fullilove sat the next batter down for the first out. The next batter up drew the second out by way of Dickins to Lauren Calvert but Williams made her way to second.

Pitcher Hailee Kelwyck singled advancing Williams to third. First baseman Katie Atchison hit an RBI single sending Williams home and advancing Kelwyck to second.

Catcher Taylor Quinn hit a single to left and advanced Kelwyck to third who stole her way home for the only other run by the Lady Chargers.

The Lady Tigers rallied in the bottom of the frame and scored one run when Brown singled stealing her way home for only run of the game for the Lady Tigers.

The Lady Tigers had three hits with Brown’s two and Fortune’s one.
Brown had two singles and Fortune had a double and 10 were left on base with one error and one earned run.

Fullilove had seven strikeouts, two walks, four singles and one hit by pitch.

The Lady Chargers had four hits, left seven on base, one error and two earned runs on 117 pitches.

Kelwyck had 11 strikeouts and one walk on 124 pitches.

According to Head Coach Ashleigh Hicks the mental game was down.

“We were here but I think their heads were other places. After Southaven scored the two runs I wasn’t worried but then we couldn’t get anything to fall through for us. Everything that could’ve gone against us did.”

The Lady Tigers have a bust week ahead starting today when they travel to take on the Tupelo Lady Golden Wave in a district game.

Thursday they’ll travel to Columbus for a district double header with the Lady Falcons. Friday the Lady Tigers host the Desoto Central Jaguars for senior day.

They finish the week in a tournament at New Hope Saturday. when they take on Southeast Lamar at 3 p.m. and Northeast Lauderdale at 4:30 p.m.

Jr. Varsity

In junior varsity games the Lady Chargers defeated the Lady Tigers 8-5 Friday but the Lady Tigers took care of business downing the Lady Chargers 9-1 Saturday.

On the mound for the Lady Tigers was Dickins who got the win and Morgan Parker with the save.
