Five shot, two dead, BPD confirms


Two brothers from Batesville, Lacardo Moore, 26, and Shandarus Moore, 17, were killed in a shooting rampage in Batesville Thursday night, Panola County Coroner Gracie Grant-Gulledge said.

Grant-Gulledge referred requests for additional information to other authorities.

Batesville Deputy Police Chief Don Province confirmed Friday morning that five people had been shot and two killed in shootings Thursday night.

Province referred requests for additional information to assistant District Attorney Jay Hale. The district attorney’s office has announced a press conference at the Batesville Police Department at 2 p.m. today.

Memphis Channel Five reports that the shootings occurred about 10 p.m. Thursday night at West Ridge Apartments on Tubbs Road, Everett Street and Martin Luther King Street.

The two people who were killed were in a Chevy Impala at the apartments, according to the television report.

South Panola Schools Superintendent Dr. Keith Shaffer confirmed that the younger Moore had been enrolled in South Panola Alternative School.
