Tigers stunned by Columbus

The South Panola varsity basketball teams dropped their district games at Columbus on Friday.

Columbus defeated the Lady Tigers 66-52 to remain undefeated in division play.

The Lady Tigers scored 15 in the first and 17 in the second while the Lady Falcons put up 18 in the first and 17 in the second giving them a 35-32 lead at the half.

It was Lady Tigers Chresha Brown who stole the show in the first half after she nailed five three-pointers to lead both teams at the half with 17 points.

Older sister Christa Brown scored 14 points in the third. It was  Columbus 55-48 going into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Tigers fizzled in the fourth as Columbus outscored them 11-4.

Christa Brown led scoring with 20 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Chresha had 19 points, three rebounds and two assists.  Crystal Contreras scored seven points, three rebounds, one assist and one steal.

NaPorshue Strong added six points, two rebounds and one steal.

Tigers

Columbus handed the Tigers  a 50-32 loss Friday night.

Columbus led 14-8 at the end of the first quarter but scored 21 points in the second to take a 35-16 lead into halftime.

The Tigers outscored Columbus 16-15 in the second half, but it was not enough to make a difference.
James Watson was the only Tiger with double digit scoring with 13 points.

Also scoring for the Tigers were Tevis Flowers, five; R. J. Scott four; Tevin Lamar and Jaylin Lee, three each; Troy Collins and Kendall Turner, two each.

The Tigers shot 71 percent from the free throw line but had 18 turnovers.

The Falcons shot 81 percent from the line.

The Tigers will be back in action on the road tonight as they take on the Horn Lake Lady Eagles in non-district action. They return home Friday to host Columbus in a rematch.
