It was a clean sweep by Tupelo as the South Panola Tigers teams fell in district action Tuesday night.
The South Panola Tigers lost to Tupelo 65-42.
It was a game that started ugly for the Tigers as the Golden Wave went on a 22-6 run to end the first quarter. The action in the second quarter did not change for the Tigers as the Golden Wave put up 20 points to the Tiger’s eight giving the Golden wave a 42-14 lead at the half.
The second half the Tigers fought hard but it was not enough. They scored 14 in the third but the Golden Wave remained in the lead 54-28 after scoring 12.
In the last quarter the Tigers put up 14 and the Golden Wave added 11 giving the Golden Wave the victory.
The Tigers shot 25 percent from the free throw line while the Golden Wave shot 70 percent. On the turnover ratio the Tigers had 18 and the Golden Wave had 16.
Leading the Tigers on the board was James Watson with 19 followed by Josh Madison with 14. Troy Collins added five and R. J. Scott and Jaylen Lee had two each.
The leading scorer for the Golden Wave was Dajon Reno with 25 points.
Getting rebounds were Scott with five, Tevis Flowers five, Oxcaxious Poole four, Andre Harris two, Watson two, Lee two and Keenan Hentz one.
It was a game between two physical teams Tuesday night as the South Panola Lady Tigers hosted the Tupelo Lady Golden Wave in district action but it did not go the Lady Tiger’s way all night as they fell to the Lady Golden Wave 73-61.
Lady Tiger head coach Ralph Stallings said before the game the Lady Tigers could win but needed to stay out of foul trouble, but went just the opposite as two of the leading scorers fouled out within seconds of each other.
The Lady Tigers had a 51-49 lead when leading scorer Christa Brown fouled out with 22 seconds left in the third quarter. A few seconds into the fourth younger sister Chresha Brown fouled out with the Lady Tigers trailing 51-45. Raven Brown also fouled out with 1:57 left in the game.
Before leaving the game Christa had put up 34 points, had five rebounds, four assists and five steals.
The Lady Tigers led until three seconds left in the first quarter when Tupelo went ahead 21-19 lead going into the second quarter.
With 5:03 left in the second, Christa hit a two-point basket tying the game at 26 but the Lady Golden Wave went on a 13-1 stretch to take a 39-27 lead at the half.
The momentum changed in the third as the Lady Tigers went on a 20-7 stretch to take a 47-46 lead with 2:12 on the clock after NaPorshue Strong made her basket. The Lady Tigers ended the quarter scoring 26 points and holding on to a 53-49 lead.
The turn around of the game came in the fourth after the two leading scorers were on the bench. The Lady Golden Wave begin to pull away with six minutes left in the game and never looked back. The Lady Tigers were only able to score eight points in the last quarter while the Lady Golden Wave added 24.
Crystal Contreras scored 10 points while Strong had seven, Da’Monica Davis six, Ty’Raveen Collins two and Brittany Baker two.
Recording one steal each were Contreras and Davis.
The Lady Tigers had 19 turnovers and shot 63 percent from the free throw line. The Lady Golden Wave had 22 turnovers and shot 73 percent from the line.
Tonight the Tiger teams will be on the road to Columbus for district games starting at 6 p.m.
