Letha Lirice Bean

BATESVILLE – Letha Lirice Bean, age 81, of Batesville, died Friday, December 9, 2011 at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Funeral services for her and her sister, Dytis Vance, will be held Saturday, December 17 in the auditorium of the Batesville Jr. High School. Rev. Zannie Leland Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow in Macedonia cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary who has charge of arrangements.

Bean was born October 24, 1930 to the late Elizabeth and Mister Bean Jr. She was a retired factory worker, caregiver and a member of Macedonia M. B. Church where she was a former choir member and served on various committees.

Survivors include five sons, Tyrone Bean of Los Angeles; Gerry Bean of Jacksonville, Ark.; Lygunnah Bean and Jeffery Bean, both of Batesville; and Ronald Bean of New Orleans; one brother Master “Bob” Bean of Courtland; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Benjamin S. Burgos

BATESVILLE- Benjamin “Ben” S. Burgos, 90, died Thursday, December 8, 2011, at his residene.

Services with military honors were held Monday at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Tino Trevino officiated. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery.

Burgos, born Feb. 19, 1921, to Marie Solis Burgos and Benjamin Burgos Sr., in Ajande, Mexico, was a member of the La Primera Baptist Mission Church. He worked on property maintenance at the Panola County Country Club. He served in the United States Army during WWII.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet Holmes Burgos.

Survivors include: one brother, David Burgos of Ft. Campbell, Ky.; two sisters, Alpha Contreras of Eupora and Martha Andino of New Orleans.

Minnie Burton

SARDIS- Minnie Burton, 83, died Thursday, December 8, 2011, at Sardis Community Nursing Home.

Services will be held today at 1 p.m. at Cistern Hill M.B. Church in Como. Pastor Cedrick Richardson will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery in Como. Visitation will be held today from noon until service time at Cistern Hill M.B. Church.

Burton, born Dec. 25, 1927, in Sardis, to the late Margaret Harris, was a homemaker and a member of Cistern Hill M.B. Church in Como.

Survivors include: one daughter, Mattie Draper of Sardis; three sons, George Burton, Willie Burto, John Norwood, all of Sardis and John D. Harris of Chicago; eight grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.

Carmen Maestre Grant

BATESVILLE- Carmen Maestre Grant, 66, died Saturday, December 10, 2011, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home with visitation prior to service at 4 p.m.

Grant, born Sept. 10, 1945, in Barcelona, Spain, to the late Vincent Maestre Amat and Miquelina Rodrigues, worked as an insurance broker.

Survivors include: two sons, Richard Grant and Robert Grant, both of Batesville and five grandchildren

Janie Louella Chandler McCullar

WATER VALLEY- Janie Louella Chandler McCullar, 88, died Sunday, December 4, 2011 at Yalobusha General Nursing Home in Water Valley.  She was born July 27, 1923 in Yalobusha County, MS to the late David and Izora Chandler.  Janie was a homemaker and enjoyed canning, cooking and sewing.  She was a member of Sylva Rena Baptist Church in Water Valley.

Services were Wednesday, December 7 at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley. Chapel of Seven Oaks with Bro. James West officiated. Burial was in the Sylva Rena Cemetery in Yalobusha County.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Howard McCullar.

Janie is survived by her daughter, Nellie Katherine Harris of Batesville; two sisters, Helen Kyzer and Nancy Baker both of Batesville; two grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Ricky James Flowers

COURTLAND- Ricky James Flowers, 53, died Thursday, December 8, 2011, at Methodist University Hospital.

Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church in Pope. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Antonio Kimble will officiate.

Flowers was a construction worker and a Baptist.

Dytis Elizabeth Vance

BATESVILLE – Dytis Elizabeth “Skape” Vance, age 88, of Batesville, died Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at her daughter’s home in Chicago.

Funeral services for her and her sister, Letha Bean, will be held Saturday, December 17 in the auditorium of the Batesville Jr. High School. Rev. Zannie Leland Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow in West Camp cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m Friday at Eddie Robinson Funeral Home who has charge of arrangements.

Vance was born June 19, 1923 in Quitman County to the late Elizabeth and Mister Bean Jr. She was a farmer, retired from maid service and a member of West Camp M. B. Church where she served as an usher for 50 years.

She was the widow of Lockwood Vance. One son, Fred Brown Jr., preceded her in death.

Survivors include two daughters, Irma Baker and Bobbie Sharon Smith, both of Chicago; two sons, Ricky Brown of Batesville and Gerone Vance of Sardis; a grandson she raised, Robert Rydell Brown of Batesville; one brother, Master “Bob” Bean of Courtland, 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
