Basketball action resumes, weather permitting

After taking a break for the Thankgiving holidays, basketball action is set to resume for all local high school teams this week, weather permitting.

The North Panola Jr. High and Batesville Jr. High games scheduled for last night were canceled due to expected snow and ice, according to BJH head basketball coach Artee Smith.

At South Panola, both boys and girls teams will take part in the Cleveland tournament that started Monday and will conclude Thursday night. The South Panola girls will take on Greenville St. Joseph today at 4 p.m. followed by the boys also taking on St. Joe at 5:30.

Both Tiger squads opened the tournament last night against Ray Brooks.

South Panola will close the tournament Thursday night against host Cleveland at 7 p.m. with the girls contest followed the boys match up at 8:30.

North Delta will open District 1-AA play tonight at Marshall beginning at 3 p.m. with a pair of seventh grade games, junior high games followed by varsity action.

North Panola meanwhile is tentatively set to play in the three-team Water Valley round-robin tournament set for Thursday through Saturday, but that is now in jeopardy due to Charleston playing in the state football championship game Saturday morning.

North Panola Junior High will host Marks Palmer Thursday at 5 p.m. while Pope Junior High played at Strayhorn last night.
