Ann Shappley Harris

BATESVILLE – Ann Shappley Harris, 93, died Saturday, September 17, 2011, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
Services were held Monday at First Baptist Church in Batesville. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Harris, born Oct. 15, 1917, in Coahoma County, to the late Gordon James Shappley and Mary Helen Marshall Shappley, finished high school at Winona High School and graduated from Memphis School of Commerce, where she met and later married her husband, the late Thomas L. Harris. They were married almost 59 years.

She was employed by GMAC, the Selective Service System in Batesville and Oxord, and Brookley Air Field in Mobile, Ala. during WW II. She retired from the Corps of Engineers, Enid Lake. She was a member of the Batesville First Baptist Church, where she was a long-time member of the Keenagers. A past president of the Batesville Garden Club, she was also a member of the Friends of the Library and a former member of the Batesville Park Commission.

Survivors include: one daughter, Joanne Harris Boyles and her husband, Joe of Batesville; two sons, Dr. Tommy Harris and his wife, Elsie of LaGrange, Ga. and Dr. Louis Harris and his wife, Jill of Atlanta; seven grandchildren, Leisha Sykes, Joel Boyles, Dr. Reid Harris, Kell Harris, Will Harris, Heather Harris and Trey Harris and three great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Mary Kaitlyn Sykes and Amory Harris.
