Lady Tigers rally to beat Independence

The South Panola Lady Tiger slowpitch softball team kept its win streak going after shutting out Independence 5-0 Thursday.

The game was stranded at zero until the bottom of the fourth inning when Lady Tiger Amanda Ivy hit a triple and scored on a Meri Morgan Fortune RBI (run batted in) double to get the action going.

Chresha Brown’s single drove  Fortune home for the second run. Brown scored on a Lindsey Calvert picked up an RBI when she sent hit for the 3-0 lead.

To start the bottom of the fifth Lauren Calvert and Christa Brown singled. Ivy slammed a double sending both home for the 5-0 lead.

The Lady Tigers ended the game with eight hits. Getting hits were Ivy, three; Fortune, one; Christa Brown, Chresha Brown, Lauren Calvert and Crystal Contreras, one hit each. Independence had five hit.

The Lady Tigers will play a district doubleheader in Columbus today at 4 p.m. Thursday, South Panola travels to Grenada for a district rematch at 4 p.m.
