Lady Tigers remain undefeated

The South Panola Lady Tiger’s slow pitch softball team remains undefeated 4-0 after defeating the Independence Lady Wildcats 11-3 on the road Thursday.

The Lady Wildcats got on the board first when they scored one run in the top of the first. The Lady Tigers went ahead 2-1 when Christa Brown and Amanda Ivy scored in the bottom of the frame.

In the bottom of the third the Lady Tigers bats scored six runs. Scoring were Lauren Calvert, Christa Brown, Ivy, Meri Morgan Fortune, Destine Brandon, Chresha Brown and Marla Rudd.

In the bottom of the fifth Chresha Brown scored a run and Rudd hit an inside park homerun to end the scoring for the Lady Tigers.

The Lady Wildcats scored their second run of the game in the top of the sixth.

The Lady Tigers ended the game with 12 hits while the Lady Wildcats had 11.

Christa Brown was three of four with two hits and two runs. Ivy was two of four with two hits and two runs.

Meri Morgan Fortune was one of four with one hit and one run. Destine Brandon was one of three with one hit and one run. Chresha Brown was two of three with two hits and two runs. Rudd was two of three with two hits and two runs. Lauren Calvert was two of three with two hits and one run.

The Lady Tigers have a week off due to Cleveland canceling its slowpitch program. The team members will host a hit-a-thon today at 4 p.m.

Players are seeking pledges for the distance they hit. Donations are also being accepted. The proceeds will go toward necessary field equipment.

South Panola returns to action following the Labor Day holiday on Tuesday, September 6. They will travel to Tupelo for a district matchup at 5 p.m.
