Stronger test scores said coming at NP

Student test scores within the North Panola School District will please the community when they’re made public next month, said district conservator Robert King.

The test score results are presently “embargoed,” or held in secret, by the Miss. Department of Education until September15.

The results are not completely secret — principals and teachers are being informed, since remedial work is already under way for some students according to their test results, King said.

King has publicly hinted at improved test scores at two recent school board meetings, including the most recent August 15 meeting when he joked that testing coordinator Jennifer Mock would not allow him to describe specific achievements.

“What I can say is there was reason for the conservator to shout going down the highway,” said King, drawing laughter from school board members.

The test scores will show results from students in grades 3 to 8 who took the MCT-2, a more rigorous version of the MCT.

North Panola High students were also tested in basic subjects, such as English and biology, in what is known as subject area testing given to high schoolers in Mississippi public schools.
