Teams battle for dominance in J. P. Hudson Park action

Dalton Barefoot and Lige Simmerman combined on a one-hitter to help lead Dominos Pizza to a 9-1 victory in 9 &10 year-old Dizzy Dean baseball play at J. P. Hudson Park last Tuesday afternoon.

In the second game of the day, Peyton Cook blasted a two-run home run as Coker Heat & Air held off a late First Security Insurance rally to take a 9-6 win.

Dominos scored three runs in second, third and fourth innings in route to the easy win as Simmerman tripled and singled to lead the way offensively. Barefoot, Spencer Davis and Gage Hollister tripled while Braylyn Lee drove in a run with a RBI double in the third. Zach Boyette and C. J. Bickerstaff each added a single in the victory.

Josh Johnson recorded Piggly Wiggly’s lone hit with a single in the top of the first inning. Brandon Hanson scored the only run of the game for Piggly Wiggly in the fourth.

In the nightcap, Coker Heat & Air jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the second inning before holding on to get the win. First Security scored four runs in the top of the fifth and had runners on first and third before Joshua Ellsworth grounded out to end the game.

Cook’s two-run home run came in the top of the first as Coker Heat & Air scored five runs on four hits as Reid Rushing doubled while Denver Brown and Hunter Hudson provided singles in the inning.

Hudson, Cook and Rushing would later add singles in the game. Lee Adcock also singled in the victory. Rushing and Trace Anderson towed the rubber for Coker Heat & Air.

Hunter West led First Security at the plate with a pair of singles while Luke Ellis, Tanner Hudson both singled. Eli Campbell provided the big blow with a two-run triple in the fifth inning.

J. P. Hudson will play this week and next week and closeout the season Friday, June 3.
