Plummer receives 2nd team honors for Blue Mountain

BLUE MOUNTAIN – Haylei Plummer and Samantha Sagely of Blue Mountain College have been selected to the All-TranSouth Athletic Conference softball second team.

Plummer is a junior shortstop from Pope and Sagely is a freshman outfielder from Corinth.

“Haylei and Sam had outstanding years and we’re excited that they’ve both been selected to the all-conference teams,” said BMC coach Kevin Barefield. “They’re both certainly deserving of the honor. They’re tremendous young women and have been great leaders for us in our first year of competition.”

Plummer, who played for South Panola High and Northwest Mississippi Community College, hit .281 for the Lady Toppers with seven doubles, two home runs and 13 runs batted in and scored 13 runs.

The Lady Toppers, in their first year of play in the NAIA, finished the season with a 5-37 overall record and 3-27 mark in the TSAC. They opened conference tournament play yesterday at Henderson, Tenn.

Hebert and Plummer selected in postseason teams for Lady Rangers

SENATOBIA, Miss. – Led by first team selections Candice Brasher and Linsey Hebert, a total of eight Northwest Rangers highlight the 2011 MACJC All-North Division Softball Team released today following a vote of the seven north division head coaches.

Brasher played and started in all 38 games, tying for the team lead with a .431 average and also smacking a team-high 17 doubles and driving in a team-best 37 runs. An NJCAA Pitcher of the Week selection during the year, Brasher had a career-best 19-game hitting streak snapped in the postseason.

Hebert started in 31 of 38 games at second base, hitting .333 with eight doubles, a triple and home run. She carried a .417 on-base percentage (third on the team) and stole 9 of 10 bases.

All-North Division second team honors went to sophomore Lindsey Brewer (C), sophomore Kayla Wilson (1B), freshman Hillari Plummer (SS) and freshman Stormy Robison (OF), while sophomore Min Kandies (3B) and sophomore Magen Fullwood (RHP) were each named honorable mentions, respectively.

Coaches will decide and vote on All-State and All-Region XXIII selections at a later date.
Northwest finished the 2011 season 23-17 overall and placed third in the north division with a 14-8 mark. The Rangers lost in the first round of the state championships, 4-0, to eventual champion East Central.
