Albert Billy Crosby

MARKS–Albert Billy Crosby, 86, died Sunday, April 10, 2011, at Quitman County Hospital. He was the uncle of Billy Pinion of Batesville.

Services were held Sunday, April 17 at Calvary Baptist Church. Rev. Ernest Gordon officiated. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

Crosby was born Jan. 12, 1925, in Marks.

Maurice Chambers

SARDIS–Maurice Chambers, 54, died Thursday, April 28, 2011, at his residence.

Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church in Enid. William Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Vistiation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Chambers, born Oct. 11, 1956, in Enid, to Georgia Ella Cosby Johnson, was a member of Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church in Enid. He was a U.S. Marine veteran.

Survivors include: his wife, Edna Chambers of Sardis; three daughters, MarQuita Cherelle Suggs of Enid, MarQuita Yvette Anderson of Oakland and Paula Boyd of Lynn, Mass.; two sons, LaCorey Hoskins of Pope and Reginald Grant of Sardis; 10 sisters, Juldine Robertson, Robbie Lantern, Gloria Johnson, and Bontia Hayes, all of Batesville, Marilyn Brooks and Alecia Hines, both of Enid, Marilyn Smith, Shauntae Smith, Latasha Smith and Virginia Freeman, all of Memphis; seven brothers, Rev. William Johnson of Batesville, Keith Johnson of Crowder, Ga., Lyndon Johnson of Leesburg, Ga., Ulysee Cosby of Milwaukee, Wis., Andrew Smith, Douglas Smith and Quantrell Milan, all of Memphis and seven grandchildren.

Bessie Mae Johnson

ENID–Bessie Mae Johnson, 90, died Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at her residence.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary Chapel. Julius Minor will officiate. Visitation will be held today from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Burial will be in Oliver Grove Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Johnson, born Sept. 15, 1920, in Water Valley, to the late Milton Taliaferro and AB Jones, was a homemaker and a member of Olive Grove M.B. Church.

Survivors include: six daughters, Eva Mae Flowers of Pope, Liddie Vera Kimmons of Sardis, Martha Green of Oakland, Calif., Janice Terry of Las Vegas, Betty Richmond of Chicago and Eva Moore of Oakland, Calif.; three sons, Earl Johnson of Batesville, Frank Johnson of Sardis and Charles Johnson of Charleston; one sister, Mary Glover of Memphis; one brother, Robert TaliaFerro of Memphis; 49 grandchildren; 103 great-grandchildren and 88 great-great-grandchildren.

Mollie Lou Ellis Strong

BATESVILLE–Mollie Lou Ellis Strong, 60, died Monday, May 2, 2011, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary Chapel. Bishop Calvin C. Wiley will officiate. Visitation will be held today from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery in Courtland. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Strong, born May 29, 1960, in Batesville, to the late John Adair and Lottie B. “Monk” Ellis, was a homemaker and a member of Vaughn Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church.

Survivors include: her husband, Cleo Strong of Batesville; nine daughters, Cherel Stanford, Denise Strong, Caroline Strong, Lisa Strong, Kimberly Strong, Brittany Strong, Annie Strong, Latoya Strong and Tiffany Strong, all of Batesville; one son, Rico Strong; six sisters, Margaret Baker and Vaughn Frison, both of Batesville, Maslo Perkins of Vicksburg, Johnnie Florence, Betty Adair and Emma Adair, all of Milwaukee; one brother, Jimmy Adair of Batesville; 24 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
