Youth Football sign up

The Panola County Youth Football league for the Batesville Tigers will sign up new players only.

Sign up will be held on the South Panola football field from 10 a.m. to noon.

Children ages 7 to 12 are eligible to play.

Sportsman extravaganza

Tony Ruiz is the guest speaker for the North Mississippi Sportsman’s Extravaganza at the Batesville Civic Center.

From 9 a.m. until 10 p.m., hunting and fishing enthusiasts will have opportunities to watch seminars, view and sample outdoor products and to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Ruiz will speak at 6 p.m.

Other attractions at the Extravaganza will include seminars by:

•Greg Hood of Clarksdale with Hoodwink Game Calls.

•Kevin Drewry of Mallard Manor Ministries.

Mon.-Wed., March 14-16

Fitness camp

A free fitness camp is being offered to children and adults the week of local schools’ spring break, March 14-16, at the South Panola High School track.

The camp will be conducted by  Amaud Mitchell, a former South Panola Tiger who is now a personal trainer in California. He is the son of Linda Mitchell.

Hours for the camp are 9-11 a.m. and 5-7 p.m. all three days. On Wednesday, March 16 there will be a 5K walk around the campus.

There is no pre-registration. Interested individuals should just come to the track.

City League sign up

City of Batesville Parks and Recreation baseball sign up for boys 13-15 will be Saturday, March 19 and Saturday, April 2 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. each day. Sign up fee is $30.

Coaches are needed. Those who would like to coach a team, let Robert Lightsey know on sign up day.

Softball

City league sign up for independent and church men and women softball leagues will be held Tuesday, March 22 and Tuesday, March 29 at the Intermediate gym at 7 p.m.

A $100 sign up fee is required.

Youth art contest

Young artists across Mississippi are invited to enter the Wildlife Youth Art Contest sponsored by the Foundation for Mississippi Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks. The competition is open to all students in public, private, and parochial schools as well as those in accredited home schools.

Entries may portray any Mississippi non-domesticated animal or native fish.

Entry deadline for the contest is May 15 and winners will be announced June 15.

Artists may submit only one entry and the composition must be original.
