South Panola team claims state marksmanship trophy

South Panola High School’s Air Force JROTC marksmen won the JROTC State Marksmanship Championship Saturday at Ole Miss.  Ashlyn Coyle, Anna Hubbard, Joey Wilson and Alex Coyle faced competetion from eight other schools.

The SP team scored 988 out of 1200 points, 75 points more than their closest competitor, New Albany (913).

The team held a shoot off last Friday to determine who would participate on the four-person team.  

Freshman Ashlyn Coyle made the team on Friday and scored a career individual high score of 247 out of 300 points at the match.  Sophomore Anna Hubbard had posted a score of 249. Juniors Joey Wilson posted a 238, and Alex Coyle posted a 254 out of a possible 300 points.  

“This is a great accomplishment for a program that has only been in existance for three years,” said team coach MSgt. William Robinson.  

Alex Coyle will represent Batesville as one of only two shooters from the State of Mississippi at the Armed Forces JROTC Championship March 23-26.
