Jackson —After several inquiries regarding inclement weather and the Special Election to be held on Tuesday, January 11, 2011, Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann is issuing the following statement:

“Mississippi faces the possibility of the lingering effects of winter weather on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 for the Special Election,” says Secretary Hosemann.  “Our Agency does not have the authority to cancel any election in the State.  Therefore, unless ordered otherwise, we will proceed with the election as planned. We will continue to monitor weather conditions across the State and work with local and county officials to communicate issues which may arise from potential weather conditions.  We encourage all Mississippians to ensure they participate in the election process, but to do so in a safe manner.  As always, voters are encouraged to contact local election officials or the Secretary of State’s Election’s hotline at 1 (800) 829-6786 during normal business hours with any questions.  Voters may also visit us online at www.sos.ms.gov for election updates.”
